The Jerry Meals Incident

If, like me, you were keeping tabs on the insanely long 19-inning affair between the Pirates and Braves out in Atlanta, and then noticed Twitter exploding in the early-morning hours over what is already being called one of the worst calls ever (by home-plate umpire Jerry Meals), well, here's what happened:

Bottom 19th: Atlanta
- J. Heyward grounded out to second
- J. Lugo
- J. Schafer singled to shallow center, J. Lugo to third
- J. Schafer to second on fielder's indifference
- S. Proctor reached on fielder's choice, J. Lugo scored, J. Schafer to third
1 runs, 1 hits, 0 errors
Pittsburgh 3, Atlanta 4

Jenifer Langosch (MLB.com's Pirates beat writer) on Twitter: "Never seen the Pirates clubhouse so fired up. Ever. Plenty of reaction on that game-ending call to come shortly."

The Pirates are now one game out of first place in the NL Central.

Much love, Jerry. Thanks for not punching out early tonight.
