The Rangers' Power Outage Delay
So according to the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), the protracted 94-minute delay on Saturday evening at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington -- which was apparently caused by a broken breaker -- was the second-longest delay of its kind in modern recorded baseball history, at least as of 2004:
POWER FAILURE DELAY
2:14 – Forbes Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – 6/22/1951 – National League - start – Dodgers at Pirates.
1:15 – Forbes Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – 6/22/1956 – National League - top 4th – Cubs at Pirates.
1:15 – Shea Stadium, New York, New York - 7/13/1977 – National League – bottom 6th – Cubs at Mets.
0:35 – Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California – 4/16/1983 – National League - bottom 5th – Padres at Dodgers.
0:30 – McCoy Stadium, Pawtucket, Rhode Island – 4/18/1981 – International League - start – Rochester at Pawtucket.
Other entertaining delay causes listed: automatic sprinklers, bees attack (?!), blinding sunlight, bomb scare, fire, fog, moon landing (yes, both of these occurred on July 20th, 1969), rhubarb (I don't know either), tarpaulin malfunction, tornado, and water fountain pipe break.
