Vicente Padilla Shot In Nicaragua

Per multiple reports, Vicente Padilla was shot in the leg earlier today after what was apparently a mishap at a Nicaraguan shooting range. One report suggests that he accidentally shot himself, while another report states that his bodyguard accidentally shot him ... that story sounds pretty odd on the surface, but a Google search for "shooting range accident" suggests that tragedy at shooting ranges is far more prevalent than I thought.

So, there's that. It doesn't look like a Plaxico Burress-type situation, which, frankly, was the first thing that popped into my mind when I first caught sight of the headline. I can see Padilla as the sort of guy who would concealed-carry while going about his everyday, off-season business in his home country, and given the violence that has been perpetrated against ballplayers and their families in Latin/Central America (Ugueth Urbina, Yorvit Torrealba, Richard Hidalgo, etc.), maybe that's a prudent course of action.

Maybe not the best choice of titles...if I hadn't already heard about the incident I might have guessed it was far more serious after reading "Padilla shot". Padilla's bodyguard should probably watch his back.
