Monday Afternoon Open Thread: Four Questions
Michael Young reacts after popping out in San Francisco on Saturday, June 9th.1. So, Roy Oswalt's got four minor league starts notched underneath his belt, with pretty mixed results over the first three efforts and more acceptable results in his fourth start yesterday, and he believes he's ready to help contribute at the major league level, despite the original plan calling for him to make six minor league starts.
Two questions here: (1) are you ready to pull the trigger and bring him up this coming Friday in place of Justin Grimm (or, basically, are you more confident in what Oswalt can give Texas at this juncture than Grimm), and (2) what are you expecting to get out of Oswalt down the stretch?
2. I'm kind of violating my own policy about not going back to the television broadcast booth issue for a while, but with the stream of veiled complaints both on BBTiA and Twitter seeming to be on the rise yesterday, I'm a bit curious about one thing in particular: if you could replace only one of Dave Barnett or Tom Grieve after this season, who would you replace -- if you replaced anyone at all -- and why?
3. After a weekend of mixed results, Michael Young is hitting .274/.303/.357 on the season (.290 wOBA, 74 wRC+, -0.3 fWAR) after 277 plate appearances, and from what I can tell, this is far and away his worst batting line at such a late stage in any of his major league seasons to date. Are you feeling confident in Young pulling off at least a moderate resurgence, as he has done in other years where he struggled well into May, or are you concerned that the bat is finally just about shot -- and if you lean towards the latter, and Young continues to struggle, what do you do with him as you enter the August-October stretch run for the playoffs and World Series?
4. Round out this unfinished sentence however you see fit, while taking particular note of the date and the potential trade deadline ramifications: "On July 31st, the Rangers will ___________."
