Tuesday Morning Open Thread: Four Questions
Scott Feldman would pitch better if he rocked the Rick Ross beard. Real talk.1. Rank each of the Rangers' six potential post-season starters (Alexi Ogando, Derek Holland, Scott Feldman, Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison, and C.J. Wilson) in terms of confidence -- that is, list the starter you're the most confident in first, the starter you're next most confident in second, and so forth.
2. Adrian Beltre is presently sitting at right around 55 career wins above replacement, and has a near-MVP award (2004, in Los Angeles) to his credit; however, his career batting line of .275/.328./464 (108 wRC+) is nothing special, and there's still significant disagreement as far as how to properly weigh defensive value when evaluating a player's career. What do you see it taking to vault Beltre into the Hall of Fame -- or is he likely doomed to exclusion, no matter what?
3. You can have two of Josh Hamilton (current contract expires after 2012; will be age 33 in 2014), Ian Kinsler (current contract expires after 2013; will be age 32 in 2014), and C.J. Wilson (current contract expires after 2011; will be age 33 in 2014) on your Opening Day 2014 roster, but payroll restrictions will prevent you from keeping all three. Knowing what you know about each player and what kind of contracts they'll likely be in line for next, which two do you most want to see still here in Texas come 2014?
4. With Mitch Moreland struggling to produce at an ideal offensive clip (.268/.331/.427; 102 wRC+; 0.8 fWAR), what is the future for the Rangers at first base? Will Moreland log another 500-plus plate appearances next season, or is Texas destined to end up pursuing better alternatives?
