Sunday Morning Open Thread: Four Questions
Derek Holland is lit ablaze by the Florida Marlins on Saturday, July 2nd.1. Derek Holland suffered the shortest start of his major league career last night (0.2 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 1 HR, 2 BB, 1 K), and while manager Ron Washington says that he'll make his next start on Thursday against Oakland, things are up in the air beyond that point. Are you fed up enough with Holland to back the notion of demoting him to the minors or the bullpen in favor of Scott Feldman (or possibly Tommy Hunter, though he's not fully stretched out at this point), or does the talent and the likely superior peripherals favor sticking with him for the long haul?
2. Who do you consider to be the most disappointing Rangers through the first half of the 2011 season?
3. There's still an abundance of buzz around the subject of Chris Davis, and what, if anything, should be done with him over the next month; the Rangers could hold onto him beyond the trade deadline(s), but his lack of minor league options beyond this season would force him to sink or swim in 2012. At this point, should the Rangers be operating under the belief that they're not going to learn anything more about him even if they do promote him (and thus trade him), find a spot for him in the outfield immediately, or just let him be in Round Rock?
4. Do you believe this roster will be properly primed for a legitimately deep post-season run with the addition of one (or two at most) solid-to-great relievers, and nothing more? Perhaps more pertinently, are you going to be satisfied with the Rangers' deadline haul if they solely bolster the bullpen * and count upon the rest of the pieces falling into place from there?
[* - Note that I'm not suggesting this is all they're going to do. This front office has made trade deadline splashes something of a regularity in recent years. Based on all available information to this point, however, it does appear to be the most likely outcome.]
