Monday Morning Open Thread: Four Questions
1. There are conflicting reports on whether Carlos Beltran would or would not accept a trade to an American League club, with the latest ESPNNewYork.com report last night appearing to suggest that he actually would accept such a deal, but would not want to play designated hitter in Texas, and would wish to remain in right field. Texas, of course, already has Nelson Cruz manning right field, which means that if Beltran is serious about only wanting to play right field, you'd be looking at a new outfield alignment of Cruz/Hamilton/Beltran.
Forget about the price tag for a moment -- would you be okay with making those concessions in order to get that strong bat in here? Or is potentially rearranging the entire outfield and likely doing away with one of Endy Chavez or Craig Gentry just too much trouble?
2. A quick two-part question: (a) what kind of AVG/OBP/SLG line will Chris Davis produce while he's playing on a near-everyday basis during Adrian Beltre's absence, and (b) if I pointed a gun to your head and asked you to predict whether Davis will or will not be traded in the next week, would you reply 'yes,' 'no,' or run away screaming maniacally as I stood there dumbfounded?
3. During the course of a brief Twitter conversation with ESPN.com's Jason Churchill yesterday, I was asked if Rangers fans would be ticked at a package consisting of Robbie Erlin, Engel Beltre, and Luis Sardinas going to the Padres in exchange for Heath Bell. I replied in the affirmative. Was I right on that point, or would you do that deal if you had the opportunity to pull the trigger?
4. Tap into all of your knowledge of baseball's trade rumor mill, and tell me what the first deal will be that Jon Daniels and company complete this week. If you don't think they'll make any trade at all, you can indicate that as well. The more specific, the better.
