Thursday Morning Rangers Notes: The Chaos Theory
A few things out there this morning:
- Neftali Feliz will start tonight in a locally televised game (TXA 21) beginning at 8:05 p.m. CDT, in what will probably be his final opportunity to impress the front-office brass and his coaching staff before the organization decides to cast him as a starter or a reliever to begin the 2011 season; according to one local report, the Rangers continue to "strongly [lean]" towards keeping Feliz in the bullpen because they're more concerned about their bullpen than their rotation; according to a national report, the Rangers will make a final decision on Feliz in the next 36 hours (Anthony Andro, Fort Worth Star-Telegram; T.R. Sullivan, MLB.com; Buster Olney, ESPN.com)
- Brandon Webb was temporarily shut down on Wednesday after he found himself incapable of getting loose before a scheduled session of live batting practice, and will apparently now revert to a long-toss throwing program for the time being; upon going to team physician -- and operating surgeon -- Dr. Keith Meister with complaints of soreness in his right shoulder, Webb was informed that it was "nothing serious," Webb further stated, "It's tough. It's really frustrating for me when I'm going good and one day it's like pretty good and then you have a day like this. It's a little depressing. Hopefully we'll push through it and get back on the mound again in three or four more days." (Andro)
- As of yesterday, Julio Borbon remained manager Ron Washington's choice for starting center fielder, and earned some words of praise regarding his work ethic from his skipper; meanwhile, there are supposedly some in the organization who are not convinced Borbon will be ready to start in eight days' time (Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
- Washington eliminated any remaining seeds of doubt on Wednesday about whether Alexi Ogando would start or relieve in 2011, stating that Ogando was definitely headed back to the bullpen, when queried further, Washington said, "When you see somebody with [Ogando's] command and can throw as hard as he can throw, he does have the capability to close. But we in baseball know not everybody can do it. The only guy in our bullpen who has that experience is Neftali. We'll see." (T.R. Sullivan, MLB.com)
