Pre-Game Notes: As expected, Andruw Jones (strained left hamstring) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list to create an active roster vacancy for newly recalled first baseman Chris Davis ... Catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome) threw from 90 feet on Tuesday, signifying his first throwing session since landing on the 15-day disabled list; it does not appear that pre-September 1st reinstatement is in the cards.

General manager Jon Daniels participated in a one-hour Dallas Morning News chat session on Tuesday morning; click here to read the chat transcript ... Minor league right-handers Thomas Diamond, Brennan Garr and Evan Reed, catcher Doug Hogan, infielder Marcus Lemon and outfielder Mitch Moreland have all been selected to the Surprise Rafters of the Arizona Fall League, with the expectation being that one more pitcher will be added to complete the Rangers' seven-player contingent.

Minor League Games: Oklahoma City vs. Omaha (Luis Mendoza), Frisco vs. San Antonio (Martin Perez), Stockton vs. Bakersfield (Tanner Roark), Hickory vs. Lexington (Wilfredo Boscan), Boise vs. Spokane (Ben Henry), AZL Dodgers vs. AZL Rangers (Michael Main)

Those hoping that Pudge/CD will be the great lineup catalyzers over the final six weeks are having a pretty good night so far.

Texas has now plated five two-out runs here in the top of the fourth inning, with Chamberlain's pitch count already running remarkably high...one is interested in seeing how Millwood fares after sitting on the bench for what has been a relatively long period of time...

Chris Davis seems to be doing great tonight, a walk, 2 singles and 2 runs scored

Chris Davis is doing well. Glad to see them getting production out of the first base position.

so... i just moved into my dorm at SFA in Nacogdoches... and according to mlb.tv i'm too close to the metroplex to watch the games... but we get the astros games here... not the rangers... so i can't ever watch another game again... i just paid 20 bucks to get mlb.tv for nothing...

Good news -- this has been one of the more all-around satisfying games the Rangers have played in quite some time. Bad news -- Boston won, precluding a potential slashing of the Red Sox' wild card lead.

A third-pitch slider buried deep in the zone by Grilli ends up being lifted into right field, and now Teixeira works a quick four-pitch walk, which is pretty much the last possible thing you want to permit when you're up by five runs in the ninth inning...

Glad to see Wash pull Mathis and put Franky in.

Make that consecutive one-hit, one-walk outings for Grilli in which he failed to retire a single batter...his strikeout rates have benefited from an early-30s career revival, and he might be in line for a role in next year's bullpen, but high-walk relievers are always a source of concern, and it wouldn't really surprise me if he ended up struggling out of the gates in 2010 and was cast aside pretty quickly.

Bases juiced. No outs. Tying run on-deck. This game very suddenly has a sickening deja vu-ish quality to it.

I'm going to wake up from this nightmare soon, right?

Huge, HUGE out courtesy of a failed Nick Swisher sacrifice bunt attempt. What a gift.
