Pre-Game Notes: According to manager Ron Washington, right-hander Frank Francisco is officially the Rangers' closer again ... Disabled center fielder Josh Hamilton (abdominal surgery) is slated to start as Triple-A Oklahoma City's designated hitter tonight and play in the outfield the next two nights after that, after which he should be prepared for activation before Saturday evening's game against Tampa Bay; because of the alignment of the Rays' starting rotation, newly promoted outfielder Julio Borbon may not receive another start before being optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City ... Infielder German Duran was claimed off waivers by the Astros mere hours before he would have cleared and has been placed on Houston's major league disabled list.

Minor League Games: Oklahoma City vs. Iowa (Willie Eyre), Bakersfield vs. Modesto (Ryan Tatusko), Hickory vs. Delmarva (Neil Ramirez), Spokane vs. Yakima (Matt Thompson), AZL Rangers vs. AZL Royals (Carlos Melo)

Wow that's some nice fielding/crappy base-running right there.

Had to take care of some stuff but am caught up on the game, and have come back to see Julio Borbon with a chance to record both his first major league hit and first major league RBI...

Joey/David,

What's a good site to go to in order to collect data on pitches thrown per inning for a given pitcher? I know FanGraphs has a breakdown on overall %, but if they have one that breaks down per inning/per game -- I can't seem to find it. Any thoughts?

Julio Borbon is awesome. I want to see more of him.

Dirty: Not exactly sure what you're asking for -- do you mean total pitches thrown per inning?

Millwood yanked from the game after a seventh-inning run-in with trouble...so, essentially, tonight's game is twice as close as last night's game, and the Rangers are going to be going to war with O'Day potentially being fatigued and Wilson presumably unavailable...

Torii Hunter takes a huge chance and gets away with an exceedingly risky swipe of third base, evading Young's tag by perhaps an inch...

And O'Day (yes, the sinkerballer of the 2.19 BB/9 persuasion) issues a walk to Vlad to bring the tying run to the plate with just one out...

CJ's pitching on a second consecutive night. After throwing 27 pitches last night. Um.

July 1, 2009 at 9:39 PM | Registered CommenterJoey Matschulat

And after the lead-off hit, C.J. roars back to fan the side. Performances like that will shatter the perception (and career-long reality) that he's not a good pitcher on zero days rest.

On comes FX^2, who has reclaimed his ninth-inning role (which I consider a good development for Texas)...

Inexcusable baserunning blunder by Chone Figgins on a double that he mistakenly attempted to stretch into a triple...huge, huge break for Texas...

Back-to-back walks from Frankie...this suddenly does not portend well for Texas (particularly his backwards dance with Torii Hunter, which comprised four breaking balls and just three fastballs with middling velocity)...

Davis makes an over-the-shoulder catch in foul territory to retire Vlad, and Texas is an out away from the series win...

Three-run blast from Rivera ties it. Wow.

Unbelievable

I've been on the side of sending down Chris Davis for a little while now, but when a guy makes plays like that in the clutch it really makes you hope he can figure it out at the plate...and as I write that Rivera goes deep. Damn!!! I was worried about CJ on no rest, not Frankie after a 9 pitch outing.

July 1, 2009 at 10:13 PM | Unregistered Commenterthirdold

Visit from Mike Maddux nearly proves fruitless as Frankie quickly runs the count to 2-0, but he notches the strikeout to escape with the tie still intact...Young/Murphy/Byrd will have a chance to win it in the bottom of the ninth...reckon Frankie's arm is still hurting?

Young dumps the lead-off hit into center field, Murphy lays down the perfect sacrifice bunt and up steps Byrd...

Man this team makes it interesting...but a win is a win. I guess we'll never be void of things to talk about as Rangers fans...

Everytime Hank gives me reasons to push to trade him, he does stuff like tonight, I guess this is why all the fans love him.
