Pre-Game Notes: As reported earlier, the Rangers have activated right-hander Willie Eyre (strained right groin muscle) from the 60-day disabled list, optioned outfielder Brandon Boggs to Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed RedHawks infielder German Duran on release waivers ... According to manager Ron Washington, disabled right-hander Brandon McCarthy (stress fracture, right shoulder) will throw soft toss over the weekend as he continues to progress towards a healthy return to the majors.
Minor League Games: Round Rock vs. Oklahoma City (Elizardo Ramirez), Corpus Christi vs. Frisco (Blake Beavan), Bakersfield vs. High Desert (Ryan Tatusko), Kannapolis vs. Hickory (Wilfredo Boscan), Spokane vs. Everett (Matt Thompson), AZL Rangers vs. AZL Padres (Edwin Escobar)

Gameday,
The Season

Reader Comments (13)
Power surge by Murph suddenly.
I somehow slept right through the sacrificial slaughtering of Walter Silva (bad night last night), so time to play catch-up...wonderful night for a breakout night by the offense, given the state of the bullpen...
After Texas fails to score with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the third inning, Blalock puts Texas in the double digits with a monster shot that nearly lands in the upper deck above the Rangers bullpen...either way, that's a 430-440 foot shot...
This is the offensive explosion that I've been hoping would come and bust this team wide slump. Very nice game to watch with all the 1 and 2 run games that we've been shown.
In that vein, six of the Rangers' nine hitters have already notched hits through just 12 outs, and the three who haven't yet notched hits (Young, Cruz, and Davis) have all reached base via walks...
Nice job by Millwood to work out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam with minimal damage...it appears that Jason Grilli will be summoned to soak up as many innings as possible and save the rest of the bullpen, which is a pretty good thing with no off-days until Thursday...
Banal Twitter banter abounds whenever Ric Renner pops onto the camera. Sigh.
And a sketchy hit-by-pitch on Everth Cabrera (one which barely clipped his jersey) endangers what would has the potential to be Millwood's sixth consecutive quality start...
And Millwood accomplishes what I would suspect is a somewhat rare feat, that being three consecutive looking strikeouts, which is a testament to his sharp command on an oppressively hot evening...
Superb diving play by Marlon Byrd caps a scoreless frame for Grilli...Anaheim, meanwhile, has stormed ahead of Arizona by eight runs in the second inning, so while this victory might well be the momentum booster that Texas needs, it doesn't appear that it's going to increase the Rangers' edge in the standings...
That Arizona bullpen is in worse shape than the Rangers' is at the moment.
It's a little startling how extremely this game's pace quickened...it appeared to be a potential 3.5-hour game at one point, but now appears set to wrap up before the 2:50 mark...
Random observation: Wilfredo Boscan is a beast. K/BB ratio of 4-to-1? One homer allowed in 45 innings? Dude is unconscious.
