Item of interest on the weather front: the storm system which developed in the vicinity of Abilene earlier this afternoon and veered south of the Metroplex is now bearing down on Georgetown/Round Rock/Austin (where my family resides, as well as my esteemed co-writer David Brown -- I think) and is showing indications of low-level rotation along with golf-ball-sized and larger hail...not good...

Nice blast into the right field corner by David Murphy, who is a very productive .319/.391/.468 over his last 110 PA preceding that double...his defense has also been a slight positive thus far this season per UZR, good for +1.6 runs...

Good RBI sacrifice fly for Byrd to put Texas ahead early...tornado-warned cells moving into the greater Austin/Round Rock/Georgetown area with a game scheduled for tonight at the Dell Diamond and thousands presumably packed into a very small area...also, the Dell Diamond does not have a particularly large concourse to protect fans...this could get very, very dicey...

Josh certainly got excited over that fly ball which didn't even carry to the warning track.

Especially not good when your roof is getting repaired today from the last big hailstorm.

You live in metro Austin, Mike? Keep me posted on what's going down...I can't get any answer from the family down there and none of the Austin news websites are running live video feeds...I'm also still picking up TVS signatures approaching the greater Round Rock area, which is concerning me...

Also, Millwood needs to stop trying to barehand grounders. I know it's an instinctive thing, but good grief.

Okay, sliding head-first into first base is a tactic learned from Omar which Nelson needs to forget...

Sensational catch by Elvis leaning and then falling into the stands...

Mostly just clouds and thunder right now.

I'm just south of downtown Austin. Thunder and lightning are north and west of town. Tornadoes have been sighted west of Round Rock. It looks like we are going to get hit by the storm system in the next 30-45 minutes. I suppose I should be concerned, but we are so dry here that I am just looking forward to getting some rain.

Tornado sighted near Jollyville and a tornado warning for northwest Austin. Gonna unplug the computer now.

Tornado on the ground at 1431 and I-35 in Round Rock, not more than a couple of miles from my sister's house and moving roughly in their direction. Can't get through via phone. Bad situation. Take care guys.

Major storm damage in Bertram (a bit west of Georgetown) it appears and potential major damage in the more populated regions, but we probably won't know the extent of the damage for a bit...

In game-related news, Millwood just notched his first strikeout in 28 batters faced but has tossed 7.2 shutout frames...

Worst of the storm has passed. Lots of hail and no more tornado warning, but there were a few confirmed sightings in Northwest Austin near Jollyville and Cedar Park. No reports of any major damage yet.

Cruz draws the HBP and swipes second but Texas fails to cash in...let the C.J. Wilson Experience begin...also, glad to hear you've come through it okay Mike...

We got about 5 minutes of marble size hail so we'll see what my car looks like tomorrow morning.

June 11, 2009 at 9:41 PM | Unregistered CommenterMike E

We were inundated with 3-4 minutes of pea-to-marble-sized hail earlier this year and the car incurred no damage...anything much larger than that seems to be the breaking point for visible dents...

C.J. yields a one-out double to newly crowned Rangers killer Adam Lind. Buckle up.

Huge strikeout for C.J...one out left...

At least he didn't hit a homer.

Millwood isn't an ace, but the performance he gave tonight was incredibly admirable. Way to go. Exactly what you want and need from the veteran rotation front man.
