Texas surges ahead to a 6-4 lead courtesy of CD's two-run blast to right field, and now Young smothers a sharp grounder with a slick dive to his left and strong, accurate throw to first base. More of that, please.
Chris Davis strikes out with two men on base for second out of fourth inning. Davis has 39 strikeouts in 82 at-bats this season. That is a strikeout every 2.1 at-bats. If you calculate that pace over a 550 at-bat season, it comes to 262, which would absolutely obliterate the all-time record for Ks in a season. I’m not sure how long the Rangers will stick with Davis at first; I’d suggest the committment would last at least until Josh Hamilton comes off the DL. But when the Rangers have four outfielders for three spots, if Davis is still struggling to make contact, might the team move Hank Blalock to first and Jones to DH?
Here's the problem: Davis, in spite of his contact issues, has been only four runs worse offensively than Blalock through the regular season's first four weeks because he's reaching base at a comparable clip to that of Hank, and when you consider that Davis has actually been a +3.5 run fielder at first base (per UZR) and that Blalock is probably league average in that regard, I don't know that you actually gain that much from inserting Blalock at first and presumably sending Davis back to OKC as opposed to keeping Davis where he is and giving Andruw more playing time at the expense of Blalock.
At any rate, Hank isn't going to be tradeable in July if he keeps this up.
Davis to AAA, Smoak to Rangers. Rumblings this spring were that Smoak was clearly a better player already (hitting & defense), but Texas didn't want to screw with Davis' trade value, or his ego. Smoak won't hit as many homers as Davis, but he'll walk, hit for a better average, and strike out half as much.
And my shot-in-the-dark guess is that Smoak will ultimately be the Rangers' mainstay at first base...I don't foresee any sort of major league promotion on the Smoak front before August/September, but if he keeps hitting .353/.467/.565 at Frisco and Davis continues to emulate Mike Jacobs (which is a pretty pessimistic comp, but is apt at the moment), that debate is going to heat up even more than it already has...
YES! Frankie saves another without giving up a run. Not only is that sweet for me as a Rangers fan, but I drafted him in the 15th round of my fantasy draft this year.
Chris is not looking so hot at the plate, he swings at everything. Replacing him with Smoak and Blalock with a solid contact DH will do wonders to this lineup.

Michael Young is unconsciously good right now. Ditto Kevin Millwood.
4-0 Texas. I could get used to this.
And immediately after Eric Nadel reportedly uttered the unspeakable P-word ("perfect"), Russell Branyan goes yard to right field. Bump in the road.
Well, that was a rapid meltdown. Knotted at 4-4 and Seattle's thirsting for more. Ack.

From Evan Grant, shortly before Davis's homer:

And Millwood evades potential disaster by giving up a fifth run but preserving a narrow 6-5 lead...

Do it now.

Andrus is a god.
It's going to be good to watch him for years to come, Thanks Teixera!
