Notes: Manager Ron Washington's rationale for again starting fourth outfielder Marlon Byrd over presumptive starting left fielder David Murphy against the right-hander Armando Galarraga? "[We've] got to ride that hot bat" ... D Magazine's Inside Corner conducted a video interview with Double-A Frisco left-hander Kasey Kiker ... General manager Jon Daniels on the current state of Joaquin Arias's surgically repaired throwing shoulder: "Right now his arm is adequate to play shortstop [...] [It] isn't 100 percent but hopefully he's getting there."

Minor League Games: Oklahoma City vs. Memphis (Neftali Feliz), Frisco vs. Springfield (Kasey Kiker) Bakersfield vs. Modesto (Michael Main)

Texas is finally trailing for the first time this season, and judging by the frustration Kinsler was expressing after fanning on that 3-2 pitch from Galarraga, the Rangers are not happy that they're minus the red uniforms today...

I still can't believe the Rangers got rid of Galaraga. Galaraga, Young, Danks, Volquez, Duchscherer, Davis, Harang, what do these guys have in common? They were all deemed expendable in the eyes of the Rangers. Can you if we had kept at least Young, Danks and Harang. We would be in a lot better shape right now.

Carlos Guillen gets the grand slam. Ouch.

And Kris Benson exemplifies why I have repeatedly referred to him as a "veteran mediocrity"...7-0 Detroit after a Miguel Cabrera grand slam, with Warner Madrigal warming in a hurry...

JM: Yeah, I agree, but by that same token, Billy Beane probably regrets trading Harang to Cincinnati in July 2003 for a not-very-good Jose Guillen. Mistakes happen, and while the Rangers have been about as prone to these sort of mistakes in the talent evaluation department in recent years as any team in the majors, I think those sorts of mistakes will (and have) become far less prevalent with the Rangers -- Galarraga (whom I'm still not a true believer) notwithstanding. Nobody would call trading Volquez a mistake.

About Volquez, trading him was not a mistake unless the Rangers could of gotten Hamilton by trading other prospects and kept Volquez. I don't think it can be said with any degree of certainty that the Rangers knew Volquez would mature the way he did. I believe they thought they were giving up a decent prospect for a project CF. Luckily, Hamilton proved he belonged but at the expense of what the Rangers absolutely need, pitching. Although I am a Hamilton fan, we would be alright with Byrd, Cruz, Murphy, Boggs, Borbon in the outfield.

BTW, I am not a believer of Galaraga either. I have waited 1 full season and 1 game to be proved right. Still waiting.

This game somehow is not quite as enjoyable as yeterday's. Still glad to be listening to baseball in the office though.

Did Eric just say Blalock slid into first? Is Blalock looking for new ways to get himself hurt since he's been made the DH?

I loathe the slide at first...

IIRC, the Rangers and Reds discussed a multitude of different trade configurations and Cincinnati insisted on the inclusion of Volquez.

This game is...ugly. Not throwing strikes will land you in Washington's/Maddux's respective doghouses in a hurry.

Our pitching collapsed as expected, but I'd like to see the Rangers hit better away from home. We've had that issue since the BPIA opened.

There is a trend going on. In 3 of 4 games they have had trouble with pitching and/or defense. Not a good sign.

Zach the clubhouse manager should be fired for leaving the red uniforms and red caps behind. Wasington should be fired if he insisted on the blue. And Benson should be rocketed into the wild blue yonder.
