The Nine In '09: Wrap-Up
Who is the next Tim Murphy (pictured)? - Photo by Professor Parks
Over the past nine days I profiled the prospects that I believe have a chance to take a big step forward in 2009. Some on the list will no doubt blossom into top prospects in our system, while others will inevitably take a step back in their development.
The beautiful thing about following prospects is that it allows for the opportunity to witness the emergence of hope. Last season that hope came in the form of the meteoric rises of Derek Holland and Neftali Feliz, but also the less-heralded climbs of prospects such as Mitch Moreland and Tim Murphy. Who are your nine in '09?

If we're talking strictly about guys out of top-30 range, Brennan Garr and Mark Hamburger are both on my relief radar somewhat (albeit to varying degrees).
I'm still all about Joe Wieland, however. He's poised to jump no less than five spots as prospect eligibility is depleted closer to the top of the system (Hurley/Holland/Teagarden/Ramirez/Hunter) and strikes me the sort of guy who could bust out in Main-esque fashion to the tune of a ranking near the top-10 range by this time next year, if not higher.
Agree with Joey about Wieland - Michael Main part deux is what I'm thinking too.
Another guy i really like is Kyle O'Campo - I'm a fan of just about anyone with a good curveball, and Mike Hindman really likes him as well. Also, as far as releivers go, Ryan Falcon seems like a good name - do you have anything on him Jason?
Falcon is a LOOGY in the making. He shows above-average command of a mid-80s fastball, but gets outs with his slider/change combo. Honestly, Falcon doesn't really impress me. He relies on deception and location, but isn't all that effective against LH and is already 24 years old.
Against the grain, somewhat. But, don't get your hopes high too early on Wieland. Rookie ball is one thing, but we'll see how he fares come spring training.
marcus lemon. people stopped talking about him. i think he will really compete with Andrus for the MY replacement gig
Well, there's a take on the shortstop situation I can safely say I haven't seen anywhere else. Are you basing that Andrus/Lemon supposition solely off minor league statistics?
