Quote Of The Week (1/28)
"I like closing. I was a closer in Japan for seven seasons, but Jon Daniels thinks the seventh and the eighth inning are important, too. You know I'm happy to be with the Rangers. I was told it was not a demotion. I'm looking forward to doing what they ask me to do."
- Akinori Otsuka during the annual awards banquet that took place Friday night in Arlington. During the evening's festivities, Aki was also awarded Pitcher of the Year by the Rangers, a well-deserved award considering the job he did after the demotion and trade of Francisco Cordero.
More than anything else, Aki just wants to play and contribute to his club. Doesn't complain, doesn't say much, just goes out there and does his job (while enjoying the hell out of it too). Just one of the reasons why I love this guy as a ballplayer.
