FLASH: Jamey Wright signed to minor league deal

Today the Rangers inked 32 year old vet Jamey Wright to a minor league deal and gave him an invite to spring training. Hes been around the block a time or two, spending 11 seasons in baseball with the Rockies, Brewers, Cards, Royals, and spent last season with the San Francisco Giants where he went 6-10 with an 5.19 ERA. Hes already had one swim through the Rangers organization: Wright spent May of 2003 with the Oklahoma Redhawks where he made seven starts before being released.

Wright will be brought aboard to possibly compete with the likes of Kameron Loe, Ed Volquez, Josh Rupe and others for a spot in the rotation and also give the Rangers another warm body should the starting rotation run into injury problems this season. Hes a big groundball pitcher, which Im sure played a large role in the Rangers taking a flyer on the guy.
