Yu Darvish has made a $42,000 donation to the Jackie Robinson Foundation to help fund college scholarships.
The Texas pitcher presented the check Wednesday to Rachel Robinson, the widow of Jackie Robinson and founder of the foundation, during her visit to Tokyo. Jackie Robinson wore No. 42, which has been retired by Major league Baseball and won't be worn by anyone else following Mariano Rivera's retirement after this season.
Darvish has been home in Japan since the Rangers season ended with a loss to Tampa Bay in the AL wild-card tiebreaker game.
More than 1,400 students have benefited from the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which was founded in 1973 in honor of the Hall of Fame second baseman who broke MLB's color barrier in 1947.

It is very nice to hear that Daru made a charity donation of a fair amout of money --- it is supposed to be not a matter of the amount, though --- for good causes (for the next / future generations to come).
It is that part of him I like so much that I cannot help but rooting for him.
It makes me, as his fan and fellow countryman, proud of him (I believe you feel the same way I do).
"Si Le grain ne meurt." (A saying in the Bible I like as a Buddhist and also a Shintonist at heart)
I think this is great because as we all know Darvish is the 1st EVER Ranger to donate to ANY charity.
Btw-him giving $42 k is like a person making 40,000 a year giving $168. So let's not nominate him for sainthood just yet.
its still a generous offer by daru. hiro knows how good this kid is.
Chris, I shall, without fearing misunderstandings, say it is a duty but not an offer, as just a top athlete.
