What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I think the Garza acquisition has proven to be crucial to this teams chances of making the playoffs. No Colby Lewis, no Matt Harrison, Ogando is still a huge question mark and we are still scraping up someone to hold onto that 5th starter spot. And the A's just keep on winning.Rios hit the ground running.........but i'm no really impressed that much. I hate his side armed throwing motion. He could have caught that home run that Cotts gave up.He can run--but he's pretty much meh....if you ask me.
Other than salary he cost us nothing. He runs better than Cruz, fields better. Hits for better average. Just hits for less power. A great pickup.
Rios was low risk high reward player. Garza has been our 4th best starter. That's an awful lot to give up to be not as good as Darvish, Holland and Martin Perez.
Rios for garcia was a no-brainer. Garza is 4=1 since he arrioved. We gave up scrubs for him.
If you call a future ace who will have as much impact for the Cubs as Harvey had for the Mets a scrub then a team os such scrubs will make it to the palyoffs. That scrub had for the Rangers on 1.83 era in 108 innings 67 hiys 142 k for Hickory. Since moved to High A in 15 innings a near equal 1.84 era in 16 innings giving up 5 hits with 20 k and an unheard of 0.68 whip for a starter, is an ace in the making. The Rangers may only have to wait to 2014 to see what Nolan had called special. they gave away in another disaster trade by Daniels. It is not so much the player he trades for, Dempeter last year Garza this, it is that they are a 10 to 143.6 start career Ranger. Garza is very solid #3 starter, and hopefully is signed to a 4 or 5 year contract after the season, then it will be less of a bad trade. Grimm, Olt and Ramirez is not an upgrade for the Rangers and thus not any big loss, Edwards is a different story. The end projected result. obtaining a #3 and solid 3.8 with 1.3 whip for the next AMAZING NL CY YOUNG level pitcher. But then as with all pitchers could be facing TJ in a year or two. Garza is at MLB level, CJ is not yet, so the trade if Garza is extended fits the Rangers well and CJ Edwards is not facing the Rangers directly any time soon. Though Leury may go on to the WhiteSox and be a solid starting shortstop and lead off hitter, there was no place for him on the Rangers. Odor and Sardinas may even rank higher. Rios was an absolute need for the Rangers and for a short list of possibilities at reasonable cost out fielders with some punch, he was the top target. He is also under contract through 2015 and means that for 2014 the Rangers need to sign only one corner out fielder not two. Aside for playing top defensive center fielders [aka Beltre and Gentry] on the corner, with only at best modest power at best, there is very little elde in the Minors, unless Benson becomes the unexpected breakout power hitter for 2014. Some scouts thought a couple of years ago he was a 5 tool talent, headed to be an impact bat for the Twins. So far the Rangers have kept him on the 40 man roster.
Good grief: Benson ?--That ship has sailed like a Carnival Cruise liner!
Typical post from LEAH. This guy knows less about baseball than Nolan Ryan.
I know Terry, and that is the Rangers best choice for a minor league outfielder for 2014. That is why Rios was a very good pick up. And Cruz may be at left or dh next year. The Rangers remain his best option. They also could go after Ellsbury or Pence for left, knowing one is a center fielder and the other a right fielder. But Martin may become a gold glove level center fielder and Rios is very solid in right, though Rios could play left, and Ellsbury or Pence right field. JD, you are fantastic at criticism, but offer zero in solutions. That scores a total zero, which sums up your knowledge and baseball playing experience.
You offer -zerp.
I like the acquisition of Alex Rios, but i don't love it. He wasn't my bat of choice. I would have preferred Kendrys Morales or Josh Willingham but they were not available.Rios was the best available option and he can run and play defense. Will a change of scenery an a pennant race bring out the best in him? He has always had the tools to be a star player but has been a perennial underachiever. He was released by his last two teams for a waiver claim + Leury Garcia. They got tired of waiting on him to realize his potential.Maybe the Rangers will get lucky.
Both Garza and Rios were very much needed acquisitions for the Rangers because of injuries and Cruz's suspensions. They aren't players that will carry a team, but with the talent already on the Rangers they fit in well.
Thnx Capt Obvious.
