What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Maybe someone with a bunch of free time (JD perhaps) could put together a list of all the trades Jon Daniels has pulled off during his regime. It would be very interesting to see how he fared on each move looking back. JD?
Yeah start with the C Lee trade and then go to Texierra. Oh but I bet you are gonna bring up the A gonzales thing. Adams and Uehara wre helpful. I'm not gonna slam Daniels which is what you want me to do. Rangers are lucky to have him.
Couldn't have said it better myself Leah.
Pipe down Lee. I am an avid Daniels supporter, I just think it would be cool to see how his moves have panned out.
Jon Daniels, él realmente me amaba.
Daniels first trade of note was Adrian Gonzalez [who evolved into All Star and second best 1b in the NL behind Pujols] and Chris Young [ who became an All Star for the Padres until injury curtailed him] for Adam Eaton, Billy Killian and Akinori Otsuka. Another trade of note was Edinson Volquez and Danny Herrera for Josh Hamilton [a good trade for both teams , until Volquez went down with arm trouble, both have made all star teams, Josh consistently with the Rangers]. Alfonso Soriano was traded to the Nats for Galarraga of bad ump call loss of no hitter fame [ though not with the Rangers], Sledge and Wilkerson [ who had limited success with the Rangers] because he refused to play left field. On the Nats, Frank Robinson, a manager I would not mind running the Rangers, told him bluntly to get his ass out to left or quit the game. Since then, Alfonso has played basically nothing but left. But this post is probably in relation to the Garza trade. So let us look at both sides. First trading a top talent for futures. The best trades ever for the Rangers came out of being sellers in 2007. This is when they traded Mark Teixeira to Atlanta for Jarrod Saltamacchia [the catcher of the future and then key piece of the trade until he suddenly could not throw the ball back to the pitcher, since was traded to Boston and has been serviceable] , Elvis Andrus, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison and Beau Jones. That same season flipping Gagne to Boston for David Murphy, Gabbard and Engel Beltre. Nelson Cruz with Carlos Lee [ a rental who had a very good 2 months for the Rangers, arguably the best end of regular season results of any rental type acquired to date] for Francisco Cordero [ who had a 44 save season for the Brewers the following year], Kevin Mench, Lance Nix and Julian Cordero. Since the Hamilton trade in 2008, the Rangers have had developing success peaking in 2010 and 2011. Since then trades have gone the other way. 2010 the Cliff Lee rental with Mark Lowe for Justin Smoak, Blake Beavan, Josh Lueke and Matthew Lawson. Then in 2011: Mike Adams for Joe Wieland and Robbie Erlin and Koji Uehera for Chris Davis and Tommy Hunter. Both relievers had a degree of success , but both lost this year to free agency. Prior to the season, Mike Napoli was acquired f or Frankie Francisco. Then last season the primary acquisition was Ryan Dempster fora damaged Jake Brigham and another 3b man prospect, Christian Villanueva. The Brigham situation, which led to the Rangers subbing a 14-1 AA Frisco winner, Barret Loux, may have induced the Cubs to play the damaged goods card, thus driving up the Rangers trade cost into another prospect, likely Neil Ramirez for a second season in a row, Frisco's best starter. What a fleecing by Epstein when dealing with Daniels. There has been numerous others of lesser rank, like Jorge Cantu, but of minimal consequence. As a whole, Daniels has as practice, believing that it leads to other trade options, has over paid in trades over the years. Except with a few key free agent signings, the current Ranger talents have been home grown, and this without top 10 drafted Rule 4 players. Here is hoping that the Garza trade will work out well for the Rangers, and step 1 is to sign him before he becomes a free agent and signs with someone else. A sign that gains nothing for the Rangers, unlike when Lee went to the Phillies and the Rangers ended up drafting Zach Cone in the supplemental.
All in all--helluva job Daniels. As for Leah and his bashing of Daniels--yawwnn.
JD, Eric who has given a lot of great post over a good amount of time said one thing very clearly when you were pulling the same crap, posing as others to make a JD slam, to paraphrase that you can recognize a poster by their style.
Eh where is Mr Reining? It would be nice to have each trade listed with a brief analysis, not just an opportunity for you to jump on whatever that rambling was. I don't think you are capable of that
JD you do not know my qualifications. However, I do know yours. Recognizing a complete waste of time, I will give you credit for one thing, this BBTIA FORUM is all yours. I have had enough of discussing baseball with someone that offers nothing of interest and is so predictable as to be completely unimportant or enlightened. Leaving with a last thought JD, playing the game is everything, I have so little respect for some one who comes across as if they know a sport without ever playing. It is not your fault, it is mine to actually trying to discuss baseball with you over the past month or so. There were others on this Forum, the Hack Wilson post was outstanding, that offer a lot. But even in that post all you tried to do was sabotage it with your ceaseless moronic posts. Do not in the future make fun of someones name or use a plethora of author names. That reflects such a low contemptible personality trait as to actually have pity for that poor fool. So little boy, keep posting, it seems to be good therapy for you.
Why is Joaquin Arias talking in Spanish to you guys? I don't want to google translate but I have no idea what Joaquin is talking about.
Playing the sport has NOTHING to do with running a sports club. Nolan Ryan is the best example of this. That's why his office is waaaay in the back now. In fact I find myself hard pressed to think of any former player who is running a club successfully. Catching and throwing a baseball has ZEROto do with a GM's job. GOOD GRIEF LEAH
I believe Jon Daniels to be a wizard. He is an economics dude and sees everyone has a value sign on how much they are worth. I think Daniels is the most important factor in the success the past 4 seasons.
I think it is silly to question Jon Daniels
I, for one, appreciate the perspective of Joaquin Arias
I for one think you are an idiot.
Joaquin: Did you finish mowing my yard?
