What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
A true Legend. His 191 RBIs will never be matched. No one could even touch it in the steroid era.
Impressive, and Walter Johnson held the strikeout record for six decades until Nolan, Randy, Roger, Steve, Bert, Tom, Don and Gaylord came around.
Lee, 191+ RBIs is unthinkable. Pitching is just too good and athletes on defense are so much better than they were in the 20s and 30s.
Who gives a fuck?
Evidently you do not JD, but that is hardly a surprise to anyone. Hack's was a one season total and that has produced a more standing record. But it will be broken. Hamilton was even on that pace last year for a half season. And that is the rub. It will take a whole season on a high scoring team with an incredible clutch bat. Very challenging, but hardly unthinkable As recently as 1999 and 2001 both Sammy Sosa and the Rangers' own Manny Ramirez went over the 160 rbi barrier. Some distance away, but it does take it out of the unthinkable category.
Crap guys--he's older than Manny!
AGAIN--who gives a shit?
If only people cared about RBI anymore...Also why are you saying RBIS? That makes sense as RBI is already plural, because it is RUNS batted in.
Crap guys--he's older than Manny!-West
AGAIN--who gives a shit?-JD
NOBODY SEES THE CONNECTION?
"Talent isn't enough. You need common sense and good advice. If anyone tries to tell you different, tell them the story of Hack Wilson. ... Kids in and out of baseball who think because they have talent they have the world by the tail. It isn't so. Kids, don't be too big to accept advice. Don't let what happened to me happen to you."- Hack Wilson
I thought Hack Wilson was a Hall of Famer... Why is he saying the story of him? He was great
Either every single one of you are an alternate personality of JD or you really don't see the correlation.
Ranger Juan Gonzalez had 101 RBI at the All-Star break in '98. The way he was going, many expected him to easily beat Hack's record. His pace fell off in the second half and he didn't come close.
It will take a Herculean effort, along with the stars aligning as Lee said (....a whole season on a high scoring team with an incredible clutch bat). Juan had all of those things working for him that year and still came up far short.
why are you idiots responding to this?
Why does it matter JD? Hack Wilson was a Hall of Famer so Champ is talking about a true legend. 191 RBI in one season. WOW!!!!
Hack Wilson wanted to let kids know just how talent alone doesn't equal out to wins. And to listen to what coaches tell you. Hack Wilson is saying he could have been better. THis guy was a special baseball player and a common individual in the roaring 20s. The guy got in fights with teammates because he didn't want to listen to them. Where he says that he should be an example to children about the process of talent alone not making the difference in the game of professional baseball.
Hey JD maybe I do give a fuck about this one. And maybe he was not talking in your direction. Wilson was one of great legends of all known.
I think 191 RBI is brilliant and worth discussing but JD does not like to talk about legends. Doesn't mean I'm talking to him everyone else knows the debate about 191 RBI which would be a lightning in a bottle season.
Fuck Hackysack Wilson AND this stupid ass post.
191 RBI is so brilliant and unbelievable it is worth discussion
And a good discussion it is. Ignore the village idiot.
Read Hack's Wikipedia entry if you haven't yet. Champ posted the link to begin the topic. Good stuff.
F U C K Hack fucking Wilson you stupid mother fucker.
Miggy Cabrera is up to 95 RBI on the year after tonight's negligible Ranger effort. Hack might be twisting in his grave wondering if this is the year his record falls.
