What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I don't think the Rangers should trade ANY of their prospects. Everyone seems happy just winning 90 games. Even though only 1 out of 25 or so minor leaguers make a contribution in the majors I think it is important that they stay and make that contribution as a Ranger. In the long run it seems to me that it makes more sense to make utility players out of them or better yet watch them languish like the stock market at the end of Bush's presidency. Right now not sure we have anyone that anybody wants. So this a good thing. We could be like a major league reality show. We could call it HOARDERS.-MAJOR LEAGUE. It seems some in the FO deem it more important to be voted top farm system.
Why bother: why bother?
90 wins likely get the Rangers in the playoffs and then anything can happen. I think picking up a slugger is more important than a top end starting pitcher.
A topic by JD--entitled "I don't think? Really!
Well, JD--I do think.I think the A's are unrelenting! Best record in baseball for over a year now. They are confident and on a major roll. The Detroit Tigers are loaded. Offense and pitching. I bet they trade for bullpen help-huh.The Baltimore Orioles are on fire with Crush Davis--Manny Machado--Adam Jones et .atThe Boston Red Sox hitting on all cylinders!
So--The Rangers are about the 5th choice to take the AL pennant. This doesn't feel like a pennant winning season to me.But, the Rangers are 15 games over .500 and keep hanging tough--despite all the adversity. So the FO must make an addition or two at the trade deadline. The guys have proven that they won't quit. A winning culture resides at The Ballpark.
I believe that prospects that can make an impact on the big club must be brought up and given a chance. If they can't--bundle them together and trade them for a player who can impact the big team. The Rangers do not have a narrow window--they are poised to contend for years to come. This is not a now or never proposition. But pitching is always the top priority--especially with the injuries this year. And another bat is needed--even if Manny pans out to some extent.
Matt Garza is the best pitcher available. The Rangers have been interested in him for a couple of years. He's AL proven. He's throwing great right now. The Cubs are ready to deal. Several other clubs are interested. He won't be cheap. And he is a rental who can leave without compensation. No QO applies here. The Cubs are looking for the highest bidder. They will want 2 or 3 top prospects for Garza. If the Rangers want to win this sweepstakes--they must try to get Garza to sign an extension--to keep him from free agency. And that seems unlikely. An offer might be 3 years--$40 million. Most likely--he's a $6 million rental.
Do we want to give up 2 or 3 prospects and give $6 million for a half season of a pitcher who might never pitch a post season game for us. And get nothing back if he leaves?
Just for fun--i'll throw out some names.Give the Cubs their choice of 2 pitchers--Justin Grimm,Nick Tepesch,Luke Jackson,Wilmer Font or Cody Buckle.And 1 of these--Engle Beltre,Lewis Brinson,or Leury Garcia.
That's about what i think it would cost. If Garza would do the extension--it would be worth it.
You remember the Cliff Lee deal--Smoak--Bevan- and another pitcher--a WS berth--then he left us!Are the Rangers that close to another WS this season?
Who knows??That's why JD makes the big money
God damn-how about trying to win?
Initiate the topic, but still no substance.
you mean like your post?
Hey JD--How 'bout your boy Kins last night! Hmmm.
You mean the PAR[popups above replacement] boy?
JD--ha-is that all you got?
When have you ever had anything?
Yes, that is all.
I guess you got me there.
I do love your reality major league show idea.
HOARDERS--MAJOR LEAGUE..or "the Dry Powder theory"
I'm ready to trade something--or kill it!
The Mavs are quickly fading into obscurity. Olt and Ramirez for Garza. Bundle some prospects for Rios. We can't get Stanton. We don't have enough.
Well, look at that. It's amazing how a little self discipline, respectfulness and respectability can result in a comment worth posting. A glimmer of hope from the dark depths of an empty well.
You must be talking about one of my posts?
Now that is FUNNY.
