What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
1) Rangers ship Mike Olt, Justin Grimm, Nick Tepesch, and low A throw-in for Cliff Lee and $10 million from the Phillies.
2) Rangers swap Profar & a sweetener for Taveras & a sweetener with the Cardinals OR ship Profar, Ogando, and Luke Jackson to the Marlins for Giancarlo Stanton.
Rotation: Yu, Lee, Holland, Ogando, Perez....Bullpen: Lewis, Soria, Nathan, Ross, Scheppers, Feliz, Cotts
The following season, you buy out Nathan, say goodbye to Lewis, move Ogando to the bullpen, welcome back Harrison to join Yu, Lee, Holland, and Perez in the rotation, and have the seventh bullpen spot claimed in spring training. If Stanton was acquired than two spot would remain open meaning a signing may be a possibility.
Offensively, Berkman won't get his 550 PA's so buy him out, resign Cruz for 2 yrs $8m on 1st and $10m mutual option on second (this is based upon the assumption that he will face a 50 game suspension for PED use that will considerably lower his market value a la Melky Cabrera) to be DH and back-up COF, needless to say the deadline trade target would man RF with Martin hopefully continuing his development and resulting dominance on the CF platoon with Gentry who should remain a 4th outfielder/pinch runner/defensive substitution. As far as left field is concerned, I'd like to see Murphy bounce back before committing to him, but I believe he will come through when needed and is a valuable veteran presence in the clubhouse that should be rewarded. An appropriate deal for his expected performance would be a 2 yr 15 million dollar deal. I'd also like to bring back Jeff Baker as well to be the 4 corners guy and 5th outfielder, and a 2 year 4.5 million dollar deal should do it. As far as Catcher is concerned, I'd like to see us bring back AJ for around $5 million on a one year deal (he's getting up there), and the club can go in one of two directions, they can either go big and bring in a Brian McCann for 12-16 million per or be conservative and stick with familiarity and bring back Soto as the backup for the short term until Alfaro is ready. In regards to the World Series infield, nothing need be done with the exception of re-promoting Leury Garcia to utility infielder in the wake of the Jurickson Profar trade. Thoughts?
Ugh...Please just stop with the insidious trades. Neither of these is going to happen, and neither of them would make Texas better for the long haul. I don't believe the FO believes that Texas has a limited window for contention. Making deals like this makes both of those statements. You don't give away 7 pieces for two players and then take on one of the players bloated salary. I would rather Texas stand pat than to see such lunacy take place
Revsader,Jon Daniels knows what you just said. Likely deals that happen for the Rangers will be names like Nolasco, Garza, Williingham, Morneau... Probably more likely players like that. Not saying we will get any of these guys. These are the type of players you don't have to give up blue chip prospects for. I doubt Jon Daniels will make a huge splash but I think he will do something necessary but not at the cost that some of these trolls on here think.
Yeah let's take on some more dregs. Go get somebody than could help us. Let's save those "BLUE CHIPS" till they are PINK.
You should check out Taveras' splits vs lefties and righties this season before you go off and try to trade PROFAR for him. He can't hit lefties for shit and do we really want another platoon player?
TaverasVs LHP .222/AVG.230 OBP/306 SLG and that adds up to a .535 OPSVs RHP .364/.413/.566/.979
Would you still like to trade Profar and a sweetener for him? Sure he's sick vs righties, but that's it.
St Louis wouldnt do that trade. The league has soured on Profar. That ship has sailed.
jd you are a fu..ing idiot. profar is 20 years old. he is not suppossed to be hanley ramirez in his prime. Do you even know who hanley ramirez is? google him and find out. profar would be pursued by virtually every team in baseball if the Rangers put him out there for trade.
But I thought he was the number 1 prospect IN THE WORLD. He's been reduced to pinchhitting. That ship has sailed as far as getting a big player in return. Surely you're not so stupid to not realize that. Go back to you fantasy league numb nuts.
Likely deals that happen for the Rangers will be names like Nolasco, Garza, Williingham, Morneau...
I wouldn't think the Rangers find much value in any of these 4 guys. Garza and Nolasco aren't substantial enough upgrades over any of the reserves we have (Grimm, Tepesch, Perez), and the same goes for Morneau and Willingham. They are decent bats, but I really don't think they warrant how much we'd be trading away.
Best bet is JD stays pat.
I agree-I will probably stay pat.
The only way a trade with St Louis occurs would be an unforeseen ridiculous scenario like today Beltran slaps the ball deep into the hole that Andrus back hands jumps and throws over to first. Beltran in trying to beat the throw tweaks his right hamy. Needing 4 weeks to get back on the field, Taveras is called up and resembles Yasiel, that he stays locked in right. Sometime in July, Freese leans in too much on a pitch and takes one on the hand that damages the scaphoid carpal and puts him out for 8 weeks. Needing a third baseman, the Cardinals trade Beltran to the Rangers for a solid defensive third baseman, and a Ranger who has since now and then resembles his Frisco 2012 performance. So for a two month rental in Beltran the Cards get Mike Olt and David Murphy. Be great to see Beltran and Beltre back to back. Odds in this happening 100000:1. On the more sane side, the Rangers should target Beltran and Ellsbury as top priority free agent signs for 2014, but is quite likely their current teams will also target them. A much more likely scenario is that which has already been proposed: Chicago's Alex Rios for left field and Jake Peavy on the mound or KC's Alex Gordon or Billy Butler and James Shields; and of course JD will over pay. Top scenario however is to do very little, may be a right handed bat not yet considered like Paul Konerko , Josh Willingham, Kendrys Morales, Alfonso Soriano,or Carlos Quentin. A move made more for an old player to make the playoffs with another team [every July there are several trades to that ilk], for a few second or third echelon level prospects.
Yeah let's trade for slugs and hold onto our prospects until the show they cant play like Profar and Olt.
JD if you had any sense you would realize that profars value is not tied just to his stats. thats the problem with the james type of analyses and numbnuts like you who never see a real baseball player play. His value is in the package. he has great baseball IQ and his athleticism says he can play shortstop in the bigs. the rangers do not have a spot for him but most other teams in the bigs would. he has plenty of value. Go back and suck on your momma's tit until you grow up and actually follow the game so you won't continue to make a fool out of yourself. how an idiot like you nas been able to stay on this board is beyond me. if anyone cared about this board at all you would have been toast months ago. Go fuck yourself.
JD you seem to bring out the best in people!
Rainbag: If athletes is what ML clubs wanted they would sign figure skaters, gymnasts and decathletes.
I figure skate on the side. Never been approached by a ML team though.
If youd athleticism according to Rainbag they would have.
We can party when Berkman is DFA'd
Again, not me.
Erica: Stop your fucking whining
I can see the Rangers getting an arm. Maybe a Garza or Nolasco, of those two I think I would lean towards Garza. As far as a bat, I think we need one but I don't see one available other than Willingham, SO maybe if Cruz is suspended before the trade deadline we become desperate enough for that move.
"I lean towards Garza".....Get real. The Cubs have a REAL stud they want to move and it's not Garza. What wouldFELDMAN look like back in a Ranger uniform.? He is even better now than when he left (ERA,WHIP). His winproduction is down only because of lack of runs the Cubs score for him. He is their ace and goes against the verybest the opposition has to offer---every tine. AND loses or gets a ND leaving with a 2-1/ 3-2 score. Imagine whathis record would be if the Cubs averaged four runs behind him. WHO can average 4 runs behind him? THE RANGERS!!
The Cubs would slobber all over themselves for young, promising studs like Grimm, Tepesch, etc.
Its too early for Christmas; so wishing for Lee is outta reach IMO.
3 names that I could see us going after and will probably be available:1. Alex Gordon 2. Carlos Quentin3. Norichika Aoki
I wouldn't mind either as all are upgrades over Murphy.
@Joseph: I'm glad I'm not the GM, but I'm especially glad you aren't. Both of those are pretty heavy deals that might not even make the team much better this year, if at all, and have the potential to cripple this team in the future if things go awry, which is a distinct possibility.
The position player that appeals to me most right now, as T.R. suggested, is Alex Rios. Probably wouldn't cost any of our established players. Pitching-wise, I'm not sure there's a significant upgrade that's likely to be available, so I don't really see JD doing much there. If he does, it'll have to be something close to magic, and it will likely cost us dearly. Seems unlikely, though.
