What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
According to mlb trade rumors Nelson cruz will be suspended any thoughts on how this is going to effect our already weak outfield situation?
0-9. sad thing is everyone will be saying "BOS was out for revenge". nope. we just suck
Look on the bright side: the proving of his doping and the corresponding suspension will make him MUCH cheaper to re-sign next year, IF they go down that route.
I was wondering with his suspension would this help keep Profar up instead of being sent back down to the minors.. Also how this affects our trade deadline targets?
I see 4 options.1. Gentry in center, Martin in right every day.2. Move Kinsler to OF.3. Trade for an OF.4. Teach Profar to play OF.
I really don't like any of those options. Teams will have us by the balls in trade negotiations because of our pursuing need to get a deal done. Option 1 is probably the best option but it does limit our lineup, and although I really like Gentry, he is still just a REALLY good 4th outfielder right now. Option 2 may work as this move has been talked about as an eventuality, but lord knows Kinsler wasn't expecting/doesn't want that move to happen this soon. My ideal scenario is 3, but only if we can find a way to keep Profar. I was OK with the idea of moving him before as he's still a prospect, but he's actually been one of the most consistent hitters on the team since he's been up, albeit in a small sample size.
That was supposed to say "because of our pressing need". Apologies, I am typing this on my phone.
I know Mike Ollt played a little outfield for the club last year. Maybe its time to give him another shot? He's back from the eye injury and seems to have turned things around.
Who do you send down? Profar? And when Kinsler is off the DL, who's the 2nd person you send down?
Come to think of it.. That's probably not the best idea to bring Olt up.. Leonys martin has been solid and even with Murphys struggles I don't see them sending him down.
moreland to right.....baker to first
Isn't "trickydick' the name of a DILDO?
This, friends, is where Engel Beltre enters the picture. He is the player we should be focusing on.
I'm certainly not in love with his approach at the plate (18 BB's, 47 K's in 250 PA's), but certainly he could be worse than his .280/.331/.358 triple slash. In a platoon role, Beltre is the type of guy we could extract value from because of his defense and base running ability.
Leonys Martin would become the de facto starting outfielder, playing CF vs. RHP and LF vs. LHP; here is how it would shake out:
vs. RHP -- Beltre (LF), Martin (CF), Murphy (RF)vs. LHP -- Martin (LF), Gentry (CF), Baker (RF)
If you want to argue that Gentry should get more playing time than Beltre, that's fine. I won't argue with that. The point to Beltre is that his biggest contribution will be as a defensive weapon, and as a late-game replacement either in the field or on the bases.
Also, he's making the league minimum and won't require anything in a trade. That's simple enough.
^ Didn't need to expend so many words to basically reiterate that we will suck.
I prefer your option No.4.
That guy, I believe that, hold potentialities in any direction.
Maybe, He needs someone to figure out who he is.
I guess the debate is good, but in reality, it could all be for nothing. Seems the appeals process could take months, which might result in nothing happening during the season. Cruz is a FA and not likely to be re-signed, so I would bet looking at OF options will be a priority during the offseason anyway.
Suspensions will not happen on this clown Bosch's word alone. He is now a paid liar, paid by the vindictive baseball gods, who have failed to police drugs mainly because of the players union, to lie for them.
Gentry to CF. Martin to LF. Kinsler to RF. And Murphy to the bullpen.
This could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for your Rangers.
Better chance of a strike or union action than suspensions----IMO
He isn't suspended, nor is it likely. Baseball can't punish 20+ of its best without substantive evidence, and that joker is doing a lot of lying to save face hard. This will be a long drawn out process, including appeals. I imagine in the end, the rulings may come down late offseason or early next year, by which Cruz will be gone anyways.
We won't suck, under any circumstances. Nelson Cruz is not that important standing on his own.
Like R'bourne said, this likely will not affect the Rangers. If MLB decides to hand down suspensions based on the words of a snitch, then 20 rich ballplayers are, rationally, going to utilize their expensive lawyers and appeal. It could be stuck in litigation for many, many months, which will obviously cover us in 2013 with Nellie.
Most likely, none of these players get suspended because MLB, like the NFL bounty scandal, has very little unimpeachable evidence. If their evidence was legit, action would have been taken much more swiftly and convincingly. They had to corrupt an already corrupt doctor to choose between fucking over himself personally, or getting some form of immunity to rat out all his former clients. That's just bad, bad, bad. All around.
In the end, these players will be affected more in the court of public opinion, for all those people who still care about athletes using performance-enhancing drugs.
Eric I would like to address two of your posts:
First in the likely scenario where nothign is done overall. Personally this thought disgusts me. I do nto like the idea of players using illegal substances to impact how well they play a game. it sends the worng messgae to the youth in America.
Second, assuming that he is suspended, Engel beltre may be an interesting option. But what we will sorely miss is Cruz pop. We have no legit power bats but Cruz and Beltre. Subtract Cruz and we will be scratching for runs. Which is not necessarily bad but I am more concerned with the A's and their rapid pursuit of the Rangers.
I have been a fan since the 70's days of Buddy Bell, Mickey Rivers, Larry Parrish etc. Now the thought of the Rangers without a big bat or 4 is very scary to me. Darvish is amazing, Holland seems to have figured things out, Ogando has been good, but after that what do we have? Lewis and feliz both hurt and questionalbe return, Harry might be back after the break. Soria is getting closer but not there yet. So really can a patchwork rotation survive with a lineup that averages 2.3 runs per game. And before anyone crucifies me for that number, i am just guessing what it might be without Cruz.
I disagree that MLB has very little unimpeachable evidence. If you think all the evidence has come out in the media reports, you're too naive. This story first broke in January, so I would imagine MLB has been building their case since then, and used what happened in the NFL as a learning lesson. I think MLB took their time in order to build the best case possible. It's reasonable to think that all parties involved want the appeals process completed before the season ends, so at least the punishment has been doled out before FA time.
I don't care if the doctor is corrupt or a snitch; if the players did what it appears they did, then I certainly want to see them suspended. Personally, I would prefer MLB and the MLBPA get rid of the 50 and 100 game bans and go with a lifetime ban on the first offense.
