What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Sidenote: AJ has got to have THE weakest throw to second in the major leagues. That is all. Sorry for the interruption.
Sidenote: no one gives a shit what you think.
He also wants to trade Profar, what an idiot
Cliff Lee is one of the very best pitchers in the game and will be for the length of his contract.BUT--that ship has sailed.
How could he come to Arlington and be a major part of our most fantastic season----experience all that comraderie in the clubhouse--all that love in the Ballpark---and not want to play here???
Then bitch about the heat and the traffic and turn down such a huge offer to stay. And spurned us for Philly????
To Hell with him and Kristen.
Only way we could use him would be for half a season and then flip him to the Dodgers--and make sure he realizes that we dont want him---it was just business!
"Cliff Lee is one of the very best pitchers in the game and will be for the length of his contract..."
You're most likely going to get balanced oppositon on that thought, Terry. Yes, Cliff has had a great career thus far. And yes, he continues strong to this day. But he turns 35 this season. Age catches up with everyone and Lee, thus far defying the odds, is accordingly ripe for a decline. This year? Apparently not. Next year? Who knows. But he's too big of a risk, given the age, to pick up the full value of his outsized contract.
Excepting a Philly brain-freeze to offset his cost in a trade (which is doubtful), Rangers are best to distance themselves from Lee.
(Somehow I managed to disagree with you while agreeing with you.)
That entire article is a mess.
Wow...Terry C....that sounds like a grudge on mot re-signing with the Rangers? Very homer call there. Cliff Lee did what was best for Cliff Lee and Family....hold no animosity to that. If Cliff Lee comes back...great! If not, so be it.
I guess Terri C. wouldn't do what was best for HIS family.
JD will find a needed BIG Arm. June is going to be a monster of a schedule.
drseuss writes: I interpret it differently, Eric. This guy complained about the heat in Texas. His wife complained about the traffic on the drive from Dallas to Arlington.
Why not live in Arlington?
Why not pay someone to drive you?
He's played on how many teams now?
There's a reason for that. Just as there's a reason the Diamondbacks felt Justin Upton was expendable. I'm not saying Cliff Lee is a cancer. I'm just saying....
There's not a whole lot to interpret with Cliff Lee. Dude was an outstanding pitcher, a great teammate, and had his preference to stay in Philadelphia was largely due to a certain hospital they have in Philly, for his son (though I can't remember the treatment his son needs).
I also don't know how accurate the "He didn't like the HEAT" statement is. I think that's always just been a media thing.
The most illuminating factor about Lee's respect level for Texas came the night he signed with the Phillies; he had his agent call the Yankees to give them the news, and Lee himself personally called Jon Daniels.
As much as you guys want to say "That ship has sailed" or "Cliff Lee had his chance," or whatever, you are grossly ignoring the business-to-player relationship the Rangers have with Lee, and visa versa.
That was right after he called you--right Eric!
