What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I am actually scared shitless posting a NEGATIVE comment or two about the Rangers....but here goes....(and feel free to comment)....gulp....
Does anyone here think that Beltre and Cruz are just not having a good start to the season? Yes, Cruz hit some monster HR's but the averages are way down. Hard to believe Moreland is basically carrying the offense....what does that tell you?
Also, Darvish is showing us that he is human. But, is he a legitimate ace? At this point I do not think so.
Back to the bats, don't we do MUCH BETTER being agressive aat the plate vs. watching fast balls go down the middle, then swing at dirt pitches?
Darvish is showing us that he is human by not hitting a two run homerun last night?
More concerned about the number of pitches rather than the results. 100+ pitches in 5+ innings is a bit much. Similar high numbers in just about every outing. That will take it's toll later when we need him.
I'm sleepy this morning. The State Roundup is coming up next month in College Station, and I was up all night fixing my chaps. The Eagle Mountain 4H is having thier pre-Roundup meeting this week, but I"m not allowed to go to 4H unless I wear my special "cuff". It hurts to wear, and if I don't wash it right away Sean Tom goes and rubs around on it and gets hair on it.
Is anyone going to be in College Station next month? We could meet at the Dairy Queen and I could show you all my Ranger cards. I have Magic the Gathering cards, too, but they're a little worn, and some of the girl ones have stains on them.
yawn, again (I'm SO sleepy).
Not going to make fun of you or say bad things about you, but will suggest you lay off the histrionics. Would you have posted this if they split the series with Detroit and won 2-1 last night? I doubt it.
I think this is either a troll post, or just someone who does not watch baseball.
I thought this was going to be a sarcastic thread when I saw the title....
Cruz is hitting exactly where you should expect him to. His OPS is sitting right under .800 and he's a career .820 guy, small drop off, but he's still looking at a 30 HR season. To me, that's to be expected.
Beltre's numbers are down a little from his past 2 years, but he's still climbing out of a REALLY slow start. He's been on his way up for all of May. I don't see much of a regression from Beltre at all.
Kinsler's out of our lineup right now and it shows, like it or not. Offense is not as productive without him, as excited as I am to see Profar.
And, we're worrying about Darvish, after he gave up 1 run. News flash - Darvish is a strikeout pitcher. He does not pitch to contact like a guy like Harrison. Complete games are going to be few and far between for him. He'll routinely be done somewhere between the 6th and 7th inning. It doesn't take away the fact that he's a dominant force when he's in the game.
Take a step back - Rangers have the best ERA in the ML using their after losing Adams and Uehara out of the pen, w/o having Soria yet. We still don't have Colby or Feliz. Martin Perez is injured. Harrison only made two starts before getting injured. Ogando is injured. Now Tepesch is going to miss a start. We're using essentially the 11th SP on the organizational depth chart tonight.
Kinsler's out, we had to start Soto for two weeks straight.
But, guess what, we have the largest divisional lead in the majors, the best record in the AL and the best record in franchise history at this point of the season.
I think we're doing alright.
^^ Meant to say best ERA in the AL
I don't really think there's any problem with Beltre's start. He's on pace for the same type season he has had for the past 2 years, although the BA and OPS is a bit lower. If you look at his career averages, he's exactly where he should be at this point. Beltre is 34, and you know at some point the decline is going to come. Just hope it's not until year 5 of the contract.
Cruz...I don't know. I am hoping he is not becoming the RH version of Adam Dunn. But he's notoriously streaky, and he's probably just on one of the bad streaks now. You can really tell by the pitches he's missing or fouling off that he's not quite right.
I think Darvish is growing into his ace-ness. You'd consider Verlander an ace, right? He was human last Thursday night. It happens. Darvish pitched well enough to win last night, but unfortunately the Marlins' offense showed up again and couldn't produce anything. I don't know what to say about the pitch count. I see nothing wrong with 105-115 per game, but that should get you through 7 innings most nights.
I agree that the aggressive approach is a good one, depending on the situation. Sometimes the first pitch is the best one you get...jump on it.
I DO watch baseball, Trey. I was just laughing because I found out from Elaine, the Head Cashier, that Mr. Ryan used to play baseball himself!! At first I thought she was making a joke, and I was going to call her a darny poophead, but Dr. Goodness says, "Ideas give you power, bad words make you sour", so I didn't do it. I'm trying use bad words less.
When I get home from work tonight, I'm going to look through my baseball cards to see if I have any of Mr. Ryan.
Sorry for using the wrong name before, but I'm at work, and Elaine, the Head Cashier, says I'm not allowed to use the work computer to go on the internet because of that one time the Ft. Worth police came and took the computer. So I told a little lie.
Darvish allowed one run last night over 5. He has 8/9 quality starts on the year I believe. Beyond that, Harrison, Lewis, Feliz, and Ogando are on the DL, and Tepech will miss his next start. STILL, we have one of the top ERAs in baseball.
Kinsler has been the best hitter through the season so far, and his absense is being seen, as we've lost the a couple of the games he's missed recently with no offensive spark. However, Soto and Chirinos have been spelling AJP and were actually serviceable. Our 1st baseman is actually beginning to produce regularly. Beltre is warming up, Cruz is right with expectations, and WE'VE STRUCK OUT LESS THAN ANY TEAM IN BASEBALL. We are a half game back from the Cardinals for the best record in baseball...
Explain to me how the hell the sky is falling, again?
The Rangers will be inconsistent all year. We gotta get used to it. Some days we will beat up on Verlander, Weaver and Price for a bunch of runs. And some days we will get shutout by guys like Dan Straily. Rangers offense = inconsistent...
@Aaron - I'm pretty sure you just described baseball in general. It's a long season. Guys get hot. Guys get cold. That's just the way it works.
Among things that don't really matter in the grand scheme of things, baseball can be one of the most maddening. Last night was a perfect example of that.
Darvish wasn't his best, but was sure good enough to win. Sometimes the other pitcher is better or has a career night. It happens in a 162 game season.
As far as bats go....I am not a big fan of Murphy batting 2nd. Martin or Garcia would be better. Wash just won't overload a rookies plate.
that figures....Murphy hits a 2 run HR after my comment
Here is the problem:
Baseball fans equate sweeping the Red Sox, or capturing 3 out of 4 from the Tigers, as THAT MEANS THE RANGERS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL.
Uh oh, but we lost 2 out of 3 to the Cubs, and we lost a series to the White Sox, now we've lost a series to the A's. OH NO THE RANGERS ARE INCONSISTENT LET'S ANALYZE ALL THEIR PROBLEMS.
The Rangers have shown they can compete, and dominate, the most talented teams in baseball. This club is doing fine. Anyone can lose to a bad team; it takes a good team to consistently defeat other good teams. The Rangers do that.
This team can do better, and they are going to be better in August than they are right now, but let's chill out. It's 46 games.
And for what it's worth, Baseball Prospectus's "Adjusted Hit List Factor" winning percentage is .600, which is 2nd in baseball tp Detroit. So even though they've overachieved this year, it's certainly not by a dramatic margin.
DAMNIT. HIT THE FUCKING BALL. GET AN ACTUAL HIT. GET IT OUT OF THE INFIELD. AAARRRRGGUUUHHH
dont worry, we will figure out how to not score w/ two on and one out. no faith. not faith
We went 4-3 against the A's and the Tigers while trotting out the 9th and 10th SP in the system. Not great, but could be much worse. I suspect a lot of people would feel better if we split with the Tigers and went 2-1 against the A's. It basically adds up to the exact same thing, but perception is amazing.
not basically the same thing. the difference is 5.5 or 7.5 games back.
GB do not matter in May, unless you're The the Angels Angels of Aneheim(stupid fucking name), even they can come back from the cellar to have a fighting chance. My only question and the real only question is, if we did in fact have Colby Lewis, Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz, and Martin Perez- would we have a better record than 30-16? Think about it gents. Would we have an even more impressive record or a slightly worse?
