What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
David Murphy is not an everyday player. I have always felt that when he produces it is a bonus because he doesnt have "professional" at bats. His last at bat in the Twins game Saturday was pretty typical by trying to pull a 94 mph outside corner fast ball with a weak flick of the wrist instead of going the other way.
Profar,Olt, Grim, Murphy for Stanton sounds good to me. Stanton would be devastating at the Ballpark with a change of scenery. We know that Profar wont be replacing Andrus, and as long as Kinsler is still productive, along with the fact that he signed an extension last year, I dont see where Profar will play here. Can you imagine how good the offense would be with Stanton in left instead of Murphy?
Murphy became very adept at hitting to the opposite field in the second half of last year. He proved himself so productive offensively (and good enough defensively) last year that they handed full-time left field responsibility to him in spring training whereas he was always competing for playing time in previous years. To me, that is the difference this year. I think he's lost his edge. And I'm not sure he's the type of personality/player to get it back on his own. I think he thrived on that intra-club competition but is now proving himself to be, as Big Puma said, not an everyday player. But knowing Wash, he's going to give Murphy every chance to find his groove and prove otherwise. I hope Murph comes around. He's hurting the club right now.
Yeah, I'm pretty much done with Murph and Moreland. If I'm not mistaken Murph is a FA at the end of the year. Next season likely will see us with a new LF, RF, and 1B. Fun times.
role player. not a prime time player. better in a loaded lineup where he does not have to carry the load. Most of his production last year came in two big spurts. the rest of the time he was a spare. they have milked him for what he was worth. He really does not have a lot left in the tank. sadly Wash will play him till he falls over. JD will have to step in if something is going to be done./
I the make up of our current roster. Old guys, journeymen guys and role players. Gincarlo will just turn into another JOSH and all the drama.
Would be nice to find away to be able to never have a lefty that isn't AJ hitting against LHP. Unfortunately this roster won't allow that.
? ? ?
Profar is hitting .210 and Olt is hitting .139 at Round Rock through 20 games. If they are still valued highly around the league, I think the Rangers would be wise to try and see if they can upgrade LF or !B or both. We could have had Justin Upton for both of those "prospects"
What rationale are you using to say that Stanton will turn into another Hamilton. That really makes no sense.
And so what that Profar and Olt aren't hitting yet? 20 games and you're done with them? Really?
Ok, posted this in another thread on accident.....
"Making Murphy a full time OF against both RHP and LHP was interesting, but I think we need to consider platooning him again. He got the full time job by posting a wRC+ against lefties of 129 in 2012. That was mainly carried by a .433 BABIP. Here are his 2012 platoon numbers:
LHP: 6.0 BB%, .433 BABIP, .093 ISO, 129 wRC+RHP: 11.2 BB%, .314 BABIP, .191 ISO, 126 wRC+
Career platoon splits:
LHP: 6.2 BB%, .317 BABIP, .092 ISO, 74 wRC+RHP: 9.2 BB%, .312 BABIP, .191 ISO, 117 wRC+
I think that its clear at this point that he cannot hit for power, OR walk against left handed pitching. And its absurd to think that he will BABIP over .400 against them any more. He should really be seeing the bulk of his PAs against righties.
Not that I expect that to ever happen. Our manager is infamously stubborn (see: Michael Young)."
We are one big OF bat from being a superior team to any of the previous three Ranger clubs.
I am not saying that I am done with Profar and Olt. I am saying that there is really not a spot on this team for Profar unless Kinsler is moved, so why not flip Profar in a trade for a proven young star such as Stanton. Florida would be the perfect team for this because they gutted their team and Stanton is not very happy about his situation.I would only move Profar in a deal if I was getting a proven stud back in return.
That makes sense to me. I'm sure it makes sense to JD, as well. It's difficult to know what the Miami Marlins are thinking here, though. At the moment, Stanton is their ONLY drwing card. However, that team is so incredibly bad, I can't see why they don't try to get a nice return for him. That team isn't going to draw high attendance...with or without Giancarlo Stanton.
MLB Tonight did a segment on the top teams in line to grade for Stanton; Texas was not on the list apparently because Miami wants two low cost players already in the majors. One suggestion was Machado and Bundy from Baltimore for Stanton.
Jeff in SD:
If they want Big League guys, I give you David Murphy and Martin Perez (or Grimm/Tepesch). Throw in a prospect or two and it could get done.
If not, (Murphy can't be all that exciting to anyone) and JD thinks Stanton will return to raking, then you substitute Cruz, maybe Leury, or possibly even Leonys for Murph.
Moreland's actually looked pretty good in these last couple games.
If you think we can get Dtanton for Murphy[free agent\, Perez[injured] and a couple of prospects you are dreaming. That's just ignorant.
I don't think Miami ever said they wanted young major leaguers, because they keep saying he's not available. But they didn't do an exhaustive list; they only listed like 5 teams or so.
Not that this means much either, but every beat writer I've seen ponder a Stanton trade has listed the Rangers first, or shortly thereafter, as most likely to have the pieces and to pull the trigger on it. I'm inclined to agree. And it seems almost inevitable that he will be traded at some point; they can't really expect to contend for the next few years, so if they don't trade him, they're essentially wasting his talent and not planning for the future, like the Astros are.
I don't know what it would take to acquire Stanton, but the Rangers have the chips. It won't be cheap. But if they want him badly enough, they'll get him.
Murphy ALWAYS gets off to a slow start. His best months are July and August. I did, however, actually have a dream that Stanton was a Ranger. I think we need to do whatever it takes (within reason) to get that done, but you gotta remember you are dealing with an organization (Marlins) that is insane. Tough to rationally deal with people like that.
