What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Jeff, the reason we are critiquing your post is that it's not accurate. You just quoted a bunch of cliches. Those statements have no real value and mean nothing.
Mr. Man, appreciate the banter and that you're not simply bashing others like so many are prone to do. That being said, go back to the comments made by several members of the team, and it's management, as last season came to a close. I'll never forget seeing Wash at the podium after losing the last game of the regular season saying "I never thought it would come to this." He, Kinsler and Young were the ones making the cliché comments, Kinsler even going as far as to say there was no way we lose this thing. That's substantive my friend. I hope they learned a lesson.
They have more freedom to use cliches Jeff, because they are actually representing themselves. They have way more knowledge about what goes on in their mind and what motivates them than you or I or anyone else will. So any thing you say about them that is rooted in subjective opinion is nothing but unsubstantiated presumption.
Revs writes, "Jeff, the reason we are critiquing your post is that it's not accurate. You just quoted a bunch of cliches. Those statements have no real value and mean nothing."
They are super stupid cliches too. A fan has absolutely no way of climbing inside a player's head or heart and knowing how intensely they are focusing and trying. No way at all. And the guessing about it sucks.
An exception might be Josh because unlike any player I can think of in baseball...there are clearly times that he is not serious about his performance.
I hear you Revsader, but clichés rooted in egotism, i.e. "we're the best team in the AL for a reason," manifests unsubstantiated confidence and leads one to believe the players making such comments feel that so long as they show up, they will win. Once you fall victim to complacency, it's easy to lose your edge. I think that's what happened to this team over the last month of last season. I'm hoping they learned that lesson. All this said, I understand what your saying, and your right. I don't know definitively what the team is thinking on a daily basis. Just trying to use deductive reasoning.
ProfarMVP, would you be excluding Josh in your initial thought because he no longer plays for Texas. Had Texas resigned him, would you be protecting him too?
Using a few quotes from shell-shocked players as "substantive" proof of your opinions is.....unpersuasive.
It's fine...I get it...you think, because the Rangers have lost 4 of their first 11 games...and only won 93 games in the toughest division in baseball that the players "don't care" and have a sense of entitlement. I recognize there's nothing I can say that will changes your mind.
But be aware I don't share your opinion and find it utterly ludicrous. I think the players were worn out last season from an endless grind and were woefully mismanaged. I also recognize the A's were the best team in baseball for that last three months of the season and credit them for a wonderful season.
But I also recognize that the previous seasons weren't so great for the A's, while the Rangers enjoyed back-to-back AL Championships. I also recognize that many of the "uncaring" players you so easily criticize were on those teams that you no doubt derived much joy from watching.
Call me more of long-vision guy. Yeah, I was disappointed and dismayed at how 2012 ended. Unlike you, however, I don't think a .630 winning percentage 11 games into the season is reason to start bashing the players and making wild, unsubstantiated accusations about their attitudes towards the game.
Fair point MrMan. I hope you're right.
Jeff, I think they just got beat and were worn down to end the year. It happens. Those reasons you've deduced seem like you're just trying to make it all make sense. That's fine but it's not true. They got beat.
The best argument for the A's not keeping up this pace is simple. They aren't a 120+ win team. There's no such thing as a 120+ win team.
For me, it's never your content as the way you frame it. It's 'complainy' and comes off as whiney...if your original post was as calm and thought out as your rebuttal I'd have passed it over. Criticize if you like and all of us do, but bitching how we're not like another team while spouting cliches makes most of us roll our eyes.
FINALLY, someone has seen the light. Yes, the A's are the enemy to fear. NOT LAA. BTW, Kins need to be swinging a heavier bat to slow him down
How about Texas just takes care of themselves and doesn't worry about anyone but the team in front of them? Or is that to rational?
Thank you, Tom G, for pronouncing a "U" in Leury's name, unlike EVERYONE else who says "larry"
We've GOT to be leading the league in hitting DPs
say goodbye to profar b/c we couldn't #%@^#%$&#-ing fix the offense in the offseason. Pathetic. The A's did it. Why couldn't our hallowed FO get it done?
Lets wait till we get past small sample size artifice to pronounce the A's as an offensive success. The A's are scoring a ton of runs right now doing things that just can't be maintained. Not saying they are going to become a terrible offense, but I doubt they finish the year as a historically good offense either.
I used to lead the league in DP... Back in college
if magadan is not one and done, it will be b/c of reputation only. Thats right elvis. not much to smile about
there goes your ballgame
Effing incredible. we have to survive on errors to keep fm DPs.
