What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Jim Bowden--on 103.3 this morning--made a strong case for the Rangers and Cardinals to swap their top prospects-and soon.
Cards need a short stop solution and Rangers need a middle of the order bat.Two can't miss prospects still under team control.
The Elvis Andrus extension makes this the right deal and the right time.
We missed Upton.
AJ and Berkman are great short term fixes.Cruz will walk into free agency.Murphy lacks pop. Martin??I love Gentry as a 4th outfielder.
I've been wanting to turn Profar into an ace-Price?But all pitchers are fragile and Price would be expensive---so---the Rangers need a middle of the order bat more than anything and they just don't come along --so--
Oscar Taveras it is!!!!!!JD --let's getter done!
In other news, Upton is absolutely raking so far...
No such thing as a can't miss prospect. See if you can get Giancarlo Stanton first before swapping a prospect for a prospect.
I would be all for Stanton........
but i've been wanting a blockbuster trade since the winter meetings........can your powder get so dry that it all just blows away!!!
So last week...
Profar for Tavares isn't going to happen. It just isn't. It's a great hypothetical for fans to ponder on the Internet, but in reality Jurickson Profar is ours. Oscar Tavares is theirs. They have groomed him to be their superstar just as we have groomed Jurickson to be ours.
Especially with Jered Weaver going down ... we might not even need to add anything to win the West this year.
When did Weaver start pitching for the A's?
So Profar could have landed Upton but now you wish to swap for Taveres?
The Cardinals find themselves in a situation similar to the Rangers. A likely can't miss prospect that is blocked for the time being. Profar is blocked by Andrus and Kinsler, Taveras is blocked by a combination of Holliday/Beltran/Adams and Craig. Because Adams has played out of his mind early this year, if he continues to perform, it may force Craig to the OF after/if Beltran leaves in the offseason. There's no place for Taveras to play, so why not swap him for Profar. The Cardinals need a slick-fielding SS, the Rangers will need a power bat OF.
At some point, something has to give. Profar is not going to stay in the minors until Kinsler plays out his contract. Andrus is not changing positions. There will HAVE to be a trade or a Kinsler position change. I know it's early, but the way Olt is playing in AAA maked me wonder if not trading him last summer was a mistake. Time will tell. I have to think JD is thinking hard about what to do with Profar.
I just don't think the Marlins will trade Stanton, unless he just pitches a fit and refuses to play unless traded. They need someone to build around, and he makes a nice centerpiece.
My god man, be patient. We're only 10 games in.
If Profar keeps it up, there could legitimately be a bidding war for Profar with the Rays, Cardinals, and Marlins. Instead of it being the best package for those 3, it could be the least amount given wins Profar. And yes, Price and Stanton are valued wayyyyyyy higher than Taveras. That being said, I would be completely fine trading Profar for any of those guys. But the Cardinals will need to throw in another high prospect like Rosenthal if its me.
Dream scenario:Profar for Taveras and RosenthalM. Perez, Olt, L. Martin, Rosenthal, Sardinas, Gallo for Stanton
The lineup slots are debatable, but thats the best lineup in baseball and only 2 spots not signed long-term (C, DH). Not to get off the XBox. Ha
Honestly, I have to agree that this sets us up perfectly at the trade deadline. If Olt can pull his numbers up close to what they were last year (slow start, I know), Profar continues to contribute, and our pitching prospects continue to progress and the Rangers get healthy, then look for a big move at the trade deadline for either a TORP or MOBO player.
That being said, we coudl've already DONE the big name deal as Olt's and Profar's trade values were very high at the end of last year and at the trade deadline last year. Maybe this time JD will pull the trigger.
Even if no big deal gets done, the Rangers are still in a great place in terms of prospects. Yes, they're blocked but it's still a good position to be in as opposed to, say, the LAA position. Everything in their ML roster, nothing in their MiL rosters. 10 games in guys. Just let it play out.
It's Taveras, guys. Not Tavares.
And no, that deal doesn't happen. There was a good article about it recently, I forget who by, I think it was on SB Nation. Basically the consensus was that the deal had a decent chance of working out well for both sides, but slightly more of a chance of being more favorable to StL, mostly because top-notch SS are usually preferable to OFs. Either way, it ain't happening. Neither team probably wants to take a chance that their "can't miss" prospect works out for the other, while the one they receive actually turns out to be a miss. You don't see these types of trades happen very often (although one could argue that they Pineda/Montero trade last year was a decent comparison).
