What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Ok, we all know why Borbon is on the 25 man roster. Because he won't clear waivers and JD wants to squeeze as much value out of our stacked organization as possible.
With that in mind, what do we trade Borbon for? Do we package him with other prospects?
This thread will self destruct on April 9.
Right handed reliever
Who gives a shit. I'm just thankful Joey is back.
Large 3 topping pizza
Depends what toppings
I suspect you can get a RP from a national league team for Borbon, or something like a C prospect.
Technically speaking, this will self-destruct on April 19th... It is my understanding once removed from the 25, he can be DFA'd with a 10-day window before having to be placed on waivers or traded.
However, I don't think we get much more than a bag of balls for ol' noodle arm. I'd be fine with a low A OF or 1B with high ceiling.
how about justin upton?
It smells like a blockbuster is coming. Not centered around him, of course. But he might be part of it
"It feels like a blockbuster is coming."
Really? Because to me it feels like we're about to gift-wrap Borbon via waiver wire to someone else. I don't see any indication of an impending trade, even of the minor variety. If there was any demand in the least for Borbon, it would have manifested a long time ago. Teams at the bottom of the barrel know that if they give it a week, they may claim him on waivers for free, so why give up players now?
trade he and wash for a popsicle. actually look for a team with the same problem that needs to trade a reliever. got to be one out there. borbon is actually ready to contribute somewhere. he is likely to make us look bad on this trade. think that is why jd doesn't want to just release him or dfa him.
Borbon to the Astos wtth Grimm and Ramirez for Norris, whose name has already been discused between the teams, and the Opener has only raised his value, if only for the moment.
I like norris. give him a 3rd pitch and he becomes nails. not sure on those players but houston is in full rebuilding mode and there is plenty to choose from in the rangers system. Just can't afford to give any players up that precludes Price or stanton. grimm might be on that list. ramirez is talented and could benefit from a change in scenery. JB is for sure a player that needs a new scene. Quantity might be more important than quality to houston that has lots of needs and could use as many bites at the apple as possible so giving 4 playesr in the top 30 might work to keep them off of a top 10 guy tampa or marlins might really want. One thing though sitting on prospects for a long time devalues them. use them or lose them. some guys regress when the path to the top becomes uncertain. Guys like Olt and Profar will not remain at the top of the prospect lists if they sit too long in AAA.
@rangerbournei wasnt talking about a borbon centered trade. Just after the andrus deal, seems like something could happen
I have and will always think that is a solid ML player. It just didn't work out in Arlington. I thought the same about Chris "Long Home Run" Davis and after being traded away to Baltimore, he is showing that he was a solid ML player all along. I expect a similar showing from Julio when the Rangers trade him away in the next few days. If he could have just shown more defense for Wash, he would be a third year starter for us this year. Thanks for all the memories Julio and wish you the best in your career.
@TJ, I disagree. Locking up Andrus only means we solidified our 2013 infield. Profar needs the time in AAA this year to mature and polish up a few things before he is completely major league ready, so he isn't going to be moved until next offseason I bet. There really isn't a need to make a major play right now. Next offseason the Profar/Kinsler issue will be resolved in one way or another, and the solution will probably be dependant on what happens with Cruz, Murphy, and Moreland this year.
If one of the COF guys leave in FA, Kinsler moves there and Profar comes up at 2nd. If Moreland struggles this year, Kinsler shifts to 1st in 2014. If Moreland sticks this year but we lose one of the COF, we could trade Profar straight up for Taveras (a move the cardinals GM said he'd do) or package Kinsler or Profar in a deal for Stanton.
Regardless, there isn't any need to make a blockbuster or even minor move outside of dumping Borbon right now.
The Cardinals GM said it was a deal he would consider not do. We paid around market price to keep on of the better players on our team around for an extra 4 or more years.
Borbon might be a good fit for the Cubs, but I don't know what value they would part with. The Marlins have a lot of interesting prospects and a lackluster outfield.I think he would be an upgrade over Fuld or Duncan in Tampa. Perhaps we could pry away Chris Archer?
