What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Just heard Durrett on ESPN radio. ... Derek Lowe makes team. Tepesch and Leury make it. ... Haven't heard the other spots in pen.
Kirkman to pen, as well.
Is it pronounced "Larry" Garcia? I've always read it more like "laurie", but the other night on TV I think it was Larry.
I gotta say I am really excited about this team especially with Lewis, Feliz, and Soria coming back eventually.
What happened to Ortiz?
it is the over-rating of matt and derek that keeps you guys fm seeing that we will be fighting for the cellar
andrus aint no visquel. THROW BETTER!!! not worth 18 mil
I have to admit I'm not terribly excited about this roster...especially the bullpen. Outside of Nathan, do you honestly trust any one of those guys with the game on the line? I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd rather have Feldman and Mark Lowe in there than some of these other pukes.
Imagine how much better this team looks with a bullpen of Nathan, Soria, Ogando, and Feliz. Game over in the 6th, because you ain't scoring another run. If everyone's healthy, and if Lewis replaces Ogando in the rotation, that's the best bullpen in baseball.
We have to deal with the hand we're dealt and it is what it is... but the injuries to Feliz and Lewis took away so many options. If we can just hang in there until the ASB, get everyone back and healthy... we can kick ass the rest of the year and hopefully make it back to the post season.
Harrison isn't being overrated... he could win 20 this year...
And, if Derek will pitch with a purpose, he could, too.
Darvish probably will, anyway.
A lot of spares and retreads brought in on short term deals after partially 'breaking up the WS band'...definitely getting some 2012 Mavericks vibes about this season.
The difference is that the winning culture has not changed on the the Rangers team, whereas the Mavericks lost their defensive anchor and culture changing spirit in Tyson Chandler. I think that it goes without saying that what Tyson did for the Mavericks in 2012 from a leadership and intangible perspective far outweighs anything Hamilton ever brought to the clubhouse outside of "ON" field performance which itself was often spotty. You could always count on Tyson locking down the paint and holding perimeter defenders accountable for coverage blunders, and without that presence (especially since a player with that skill set best complements their top player in Nowitzki) they fell to a sub-contender status. Contrarily, losing Hamilton almost feels like a relief...if only for educated Rangers fans.
That's a damn good team, that should be without the entitlement so many discussed at the end of last season. It is like the 2010 Ranger team in a lot of ways in composition, with a lot of young unproven guys and old boken guys fighting every day and playing with passion. I can see this as a very surprising and very fun team to watch this year.
I view the bullpen as currently constructed as a failure, very reminiscent of the 2011 bullpen. I hope I'm wrong about this team, I really do. I just can't help but feel our team is destined for a 3rd or 4th place finish this year.
"Outside of Nathan, do you honestly trust any one of those guys with the game on the line" Who cares? Outside of the closer, bullpen pitchers don't often pitch 'with the game on the line'? Everybody in this bullpen except for the youngsters Kirkman and Scheppers have proven themselves at the MLB level to be solid guys. This is the chance for the kids to step up. If they don't, they'll be replaced.
@Pablo: "I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd rather have Feldman and Mark Lowe in there than some of these other pukes."
It's you're lucky day! Lowe is in the pen again, and Wash will probably (definitely) overuse him.
Really puzzled by the choice of Tepesch. I was hoping Ross would get the nod, but I assume they figure Tepesch will only be there until Colby returns and didn't want to "demote" Ross when the time came. Would I trust this pen? Some of 'em. Nathan, Ross, Kirkman are fine. Hope Soria comes back strong and same with Feliz. It's pretty obvious that the staff is structured to hold down the fort in the first half with the hopes that everyone returns to turn the pen into an unhittable machine after the ASB.
Many here are expecting (hoping for?) the worst. I just don't see it, unless Wash proves that he's even worse than he's shown...
@rangerbourne Unless I missed a trade somewhere, that's Derek Lowe and not Mark Lowe.
Um,yeah. My apologies.
In fact, MLB rumors is reporting our beloved LAAAAAA Angels just signed Mark Lowe. HELL YES!
On a minor league deal.
I'm not at all opposed to letting the kids play. I don't expect Feldman and (Mark) Lowe to get better than they were last year. If the kids don't perform as well as hoped, we can make trades. We have the chips.
And now LSB has a post up stating Ortiz and Scheppers get the final two bullpen slots. And this :
"There is one spot still to be filled on the Opening Day roster, with the battle being between Julio Borbon, Josh Lindblom and Cory Burns for the final spot. It appears that whoever wins that final spot will only be on the roster until the Rangers need a fifth starter, at which point Nick Tepesch will be promoted."
I am going to guess we'll see Borbon, only as a way for JD to buy time trying to find a suitable trade partner before we get nothing in return. I wouldn't guess any of those last few guys will see an inning of play before Tepesch is promoted, but whatever.
@ Joseph... if you're going to put that much weight into losing Tyson Chandler's leadership and intangibles, then couldn't the same be said about Michael Young? Or did he lose those when his bat disappeared?
