What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Fantastic game. I know, still ST, but it was pretty close to a regular season game. And it was a hell of a game. Blowing a 7 run lead, then a bases-clearing double to win from being behind 2? Love it.
When they brought in the lefty to face Martin, all through the break I was thinking, "don't pull him, Wash. Don't pull him." For a minute I was sure he was going to pull him for a righty. This is the situation I wanted to see Martin in - down 2 but with the winning run on base. Lots of pressure. And he delivered.
The situational hitting was excellent. I saw guys trying to move runners over instead of swinging for the fences (at least, not all the time). During that 6-run inning, I wondered out loud if Magadan deserves some credit, if he has instilled in them some things they may have forgotten in the last year or so.
Everybody looked good. Moreland looks better both personally (lost a few lbs) and at the plate. Martin, despite my cringing whenever he does that rearing back thing before he swings, looked fantastic. Ian looks rejuvenated. Beltre looks like Beltre, which is always a good thing.
I'll still miss the guys that left. All of them played a part in the Rangers' recent success. But I'm really excited by this team with a pretty new look. It should be a great year.
No it wasn't pretty close to regular season game. Diud you notice who was pitching? GOOD GRIEF!

I respond to every post. What a life :-).
No post is ever good. However, my witty remarks make this site run. My contributions to life and society cannot be measured.
I'm with you Andy. Last night was exciting and I am proud of our boys. Didn't see a lot of stupid mistakes or guys swinging at bad balls. Basically, we took 6 innings off and still managed to pull it out. And aside from Lowe, we looked pretty damn good doing it.
Odd how much I (now) enjoyed Buzz saying, "And it's over Hamilton's head. He won't get there." I hope i hear that phrase a lot more in the coming season. Yeah, it's only one game and it's ST, but it got me so jazzed.
@Michelle: Lowe was fine for 3 innings. Then he wasn't, and it was bad.
Also, both Bourjos and Trout didn't catch balls they probably could have. I don't expect that to happen a whole lot, though.
There was a beautiful called 3rd strike by one of our pitchers (I think Lindblom) where I was expecting Busby to say he was caught window-shopping, or possibly "frozen like a Swanson's dinner", but we didn't get that. Maybe he's saving those for the regular season.
Also, seriously Ben Rowen? Never played above A+, and is dominating like that? Wow. Small sample size, to be sure, but it's hard to get much better than that.
Ben Rowan has got to be one of the more infuriating pitchers for a ML-batter to face. That guy throws some crazy stuff.
I think last night showed the Dave Magadan influence. I'm going to enjoy watching players have a plan this year going to the plate. I was not a big AJ Pierzynski fan but I really appreciate the competitiveness he brings to the team. I think him especially and maybe Berkman too will help keep the team focused through the marathon months of the season. It still may be a lean year for our team but it's still a good time to be a Ranger fan.
@Andy --For sure. And if games were 3 innings, Lowe would be my man. I took comfort in the fact that they "spanked" us because our pitcher fell apart. We "spanked" them in the 2nd because their entire team didn't make some routine plays and we were also making good contact.
I don't think back-to-back homers with Pujols and Hammy are gonna be that rare so I don't necessarily hold that against Lowe. I don't think it would've taken me 4 of them to realize he needed to be pulled but it's ST and let's see if has the ability to settle down. Too bad.
@ MichelleWelcome to the board. Nice to have legitimate posts on here.I remember your post to eric seeking writers and you using the word preemptively. Nice!
nte has now spawn numerous characters--in fact they make up most of this board at times.poor thing.
Anyway---it was nice to see the boys again with Tag and Busby calling the action.I was impressed with the hitting of course.I was glad to see that Berkman could actually run!I think that the Angels will be in plenty of 9-7 and 13-9 games this year.
Glad opening day is almost here!
@Terry C --thanks for the greeting! Sadly with Joey being occupied, I've been a bit of a recluse with all the trolling going on. There are tons of familiar posters I havent seen in months. I've been around since the beginning of last season but with the Not That Eric's taking over, it's hard to know who's new and who's 'regular.'
I was very glad to see Puma hustle and succeed. <3 Come on, Opening Day!
Can anyone suggest a SOFTBALL site for michelle to visit.??
this is the reason i have stopped coming to this site
g: but u didn't stop. you're still here. don't be a liar
