What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Hey, Moreland seems to be stepping it up in ST, hitting .360+ thus far with power.
Any thoughts whether he can keep it up and have a 'breakout' year or if he is turning into simply an above average 4-A player?
I would view him being an above average 4A player as a Win.
If Moreland can remain healthy he does have a good chance to have a breakout year. He has a lot going for him now: experience, tools, attitude, competition, Wash likes him, and he seems to have his head on straight. He deserves it and we do too. Good Luck and the sky's the limit.
Yankee fans talk about 'deserving' things from players. Just sayin.
Hearing rumors that McGuiness will likely not make the 25 man for CLE so we're bringing him back to compete with MM for the starting 1B gig.
He's also hitting lefties very well:
5-for-10 with 1 HR, 1 double, 2 BBs, 6 RBI (4th among all players), 1 K
Rest assured he'll be the one taking the first base spot. There is no competition.
I really do want MM to get back on track. If he were to overachieve, he would put up slightly better numbers than David Murphy's best numbers, assuming he doesn't have a second-half slowdown like Murph did last year.
It would be nice to have 3 to 4 guys put up decent 18-24 hr's and 90-110 RBI's seasons to help compensate for the lack of power from Hamilton's and Napoli's departure. MM is key.
TAG told me personally two years ago on a Caravan trip that Mitch Moreland is as close as they come to a 'can't miss pure hitter' just give him some time.
I think Mitch is about to break out.
Make that 6-for-11 with 7 RBI against lefties.
Sorry murph, I was drunk that night. I said all kinds of things.
I love Mitch Moreland. This will be his breakout year. He has a sweet swing--500 ft power.
Tremendous work ethic.Good defensively and getting better.20-25 dingers this year.
I'm with you on that one, Terry.
Mitch put a lot of effort into hitting LHP better over the winter. He deserves a shot at the everyday gig, and based on what we've seen so far in ST, he has a decent chance of keeping it.
If everything broke right for the Rangers, they could win 100 games this year. The talent is there. They probably won't, because the odds of everyone hitting their ceilings aren't good. But Mitch is one of those guys that, if he were to break out, would probably mean a few additional wins. And when you're on the cusp of contending, like the Rangers probably are, every win you can scratch out is worth fighting tooth and nail for, and sometimes all you need is one more push to get over the hump.
I do think, though, that if Mitch has another lackluster year, the Rangers will probably look pretty hard for another option at 1B next year.
I love that people love Mitch Moreland. There's just something positive about him. Something very 1996 Rangers scrappiness about him.
I'm really surprised that eric hasn't thrown cold water er statistics to ridicule this Moreland love!
Yeah, actually I'd like to get Eric's view on Mitch da Bitch.
