What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
Just an opinion but how about a 3 way deal
Tigers send Porcello and prospect to rangersReceive Steve cishek
Rangers send Olt to MarlinsReceive Porcello ozuna/Jensen and prospect
Marlins send cishek and ozuna/Jensen Receive Olt
The Rangers are certainly getting the best end of this deal, especially if things finally click for Porcello here in Arlington as they appear to be in spring training. Gotta figure that until Olt shows some sort of translation of his MiL success to the Majors his value to other teams is diminished, so perhaps we could get even more if we waited and let him build some semblence of a ML resume. Floundering with the Rangers as he did last season didn't help his current trade value.
Rangers can't afford to trade Olt with a possible Cruz suspension looming. I wouldn't do it anyway. Save your bullets for the elephants.
ahh, to hear Buzz talk about hot sauce
YAWWWWN MORE GAY UNDERTONES FROM MY GAY STALKER
I just don't see the point, more than anything. I wouldn't trade Mike Olt for Rick Porcello in a straight up deal, so if that's the net +/-, I consider this scenario a fail on our end. Also, relief pitchers aren't worth anything on the market unless their name is spelled Kimbrel or Chapman. I don't think Detroit could justify trading a decent #3 starter (Porcello) with upside and only receive another meh relief pitcher for their already average bullpen.
As for Mike Olt, I'm not a believer (yet). I think he's destined to be traded because of the arc of Adrian Beltre's career, the fact that Olt will be 29 (I think?) when Beltre's contract runs out, and that Joey Gallo will hopefully be ready by then. With that aside, he's worth holding onto until a team gets desperate, or if we are trying to acquire a huge asset at the deadline.
There's a near-100% chance we roll into the season with the roster as it stands right now.
BaseballFan, it's obvious you're a Rangers fan. You don't get three players for Mike Olt. And why would the Tigers trade Porcello and a prospect for just Cishek? Dave Dombrowski is smarter than that, and he knows he can get more than a relief pitcher for Porcello.
The Tigers don't have many needs besides the bullpen and they have a strength at SP and might as well fill in one of their few weaknesses with Cishek which is much better than people think and he helped build some reputation in the WBC sure it might be an overpay but so was the infante and Sanchez deal and those two helped a ton come playoff time.
Mile Olt has zero, well maybe only small trade value. He has taken Holland's place as the class clown and until he gets serious about his career he is going nowhere but home.
I seriously doubt this kid wears a Rangers uniform till he grows up, shows he can hit ML pitching and cuts back on his extra cirricular adventures. No a lot of jobs for a 3rd baseman who can't hit.
Joey Gallo will never see the light of day in Arlington unless he's playing against us. That dude has the biggest loopy swing I've ever seen. It's like Chris Davis times 10. He will K 200+ times a year.
So the Rangers want a starter who led the league in hits yielded and at a tune of 3.10 BAA and has a K/9 rate below the HARRY LINE at 5.46. The Rangers focus should be Zach Britton of the Orioles. Actually, both would be nice late pickups and be able to move Ogando and Ross back to the bullpen. With the Orioles, seems to ba an Open Door policy when it comes to trades, Tigers will over-ask for Porcello. The Orioles need a left fielder, so a Britton for Murphy deal is workable, and go with Borbon / Gentry / Martin and Cruz as the outfield. Porcello for two second tier pitchers would be as high as the Rangers should go.Give the Tigers a choice of two from : Bell, Font, Grimm, Mendez, Ramirez and Tepesch, but no higher for a Tiger starter who will not even make it into 10 starts with out serious injury to the starting 5.
