What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
I started watching the WBC yesterday and found it pretty interesting. When David Wright belted a two-out game breaking grand slam last night- giving USA a 6-2 win- over Italy?-i actually cheered.
I'm going to watch today.
The first few times i tuned into the classic i found it less appealing than a typical cactus league game. But i got into it yesterday.
I was impressed that Venezuela had an almost mlb all-star team.
Miguel Cabrera,Pablo Sandoval,Marco Scutaro and Asdrubal Cabrera were on the field.
I was shocked to see my favorite ss riding the pine!A lineup so talented that Elvis Andrus was on the Venezulan bench.
And they were eliminated from the tournament (0-2) by the Puerto Rican team.Puerto Rico had Carlos Beltran,Angel Pagan and Yadier Molina.
Anyone else interested in the Classic?
The "major" topics lately have about worn me out.
You're kidding -right?
It's kinda cool. I liked when David wright hit that grand slam too. It's not regular season ball right now, but its all we have. I'll tune in to watch Derek Hollands start today. Don't know if you watched the first game but RA Dickey got hit hard.
I'm not interested. It's a forced-prestige sort of thing. It's basically a glorified all-star game.
When Derek Holland is the #3 pitcher for team USA, you know it's not a accurate reflection of USA's talent. Hell, Holland may not even be the Rangers third best starter.
Derek Holland starts for the USA team today @ 3pm.
It's USA vs. Canada----winner advances-loser goes home.
Jameson Taillon gets the start for Canada. He was the 2nd overall pick in the 2010 mlb draft--Pittsburgh prospect.
Yes i did see Dickey throw some----USA was down 4-0 when i tuned in.Maybe thats why i didn't get interested that day.
I'm very interested in seeing how well Holland does today.
Yes I am watching it.
No our prestige is not at stake.
Holland pitching today will hopefully let us see him perform under some pressure since this is win or go home. Even if these guys started out taking it lightly I would think they don't want to be embarrassed. Could be wrong though.
I'm interested in your thoughts on the WBC.You have a different perspective--and --I basically pick 6'd the topic idea from a post you made earlier this morning.
National prestige?. Get a life.
You should put your's up for adoption---you're not using it.
YES AWESOME TERRY C
Oh that Terri C.-she's a scream.
I would rather listen to a Rangers spring training game on the radio than watch the WBC. The only people who think the WBC actually means something are either (a) from MLB Network -- the host station -- or (b) writers that want to keep strong ties to MLB by not putting it down.
I doubt the USA will ever win exhibition, because most of the better players decline the invitation, and the ones that do make it don't care as much as players from other countries. Guys like David Wright and Joe Mauer are still going to be getting their millions, so of course they have less reason to give a shit than some left fielder from Chinese Taipei who probably wouldn't even make a single-A club for most teams.
MLB Network wants people to care about it, but that's really to say they want halfway decent ratings. It's behooves the WBC to have smaller countries advancing as far as they can, so little kids will watch and want to become Major Leaguers. Other than that, it's a month-long marathon accentuating sensationalism and hyperbole.
eric---you're such a cynic. Lighten up.
I'm watching the WBC game, because I don't have Rangers audio and I'm pretty sure it's not on TV. In the 2nd inning, Holland gave up a double to Morneau and his obligatory dinger. Then he allowed 2 more hits before getting out of the inning.
The guy from Canada is looking good. Not surprisingly, USA is 0-fer with RISP. Not unlike the Rangers in September.
* the exhibition
* it behooves
Andy, he made a couple mistakes, but his defense didn't help him any either. He showed good mental toughness to limit the damage to the two run dinger and he's really settled in.
5 innings, 2 runs on 4 hits. Not bad.
With 2 years growth his stach is clearly visible.Dutch looks in mid season form-----give up the dinger--and then buckle down.
Some one went to great lengths to keep him off the Ben & Skin show--huh!
Eric--how are the Rangers doing?
Let me introduce y'all to my boyfriend and life partner, Dan W.
Again with the gay references.
USA USA USA !!!!!
Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic play next.Nelson Cruz hitting 6th for Dominican.
This is good stuff.Don't know why you're such a hater eric. You should watch.
i've watched the USA team and it seems to me they are just going by the numbers with zero emotion. The hitters don't look like they are trying to hit until they've seen the pitcher at least once.
On the other hand, the other teams are showing emotion and the effort shows; their less than major league skills also show.
Kinda gives me the idea this WBC thing was created for television.
Really--must have been my lying eyes again!
