What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
"You can't thank Nolan Ryan for signing Yu Darvish. That was Daniels & Co."
Really? Did Daniels put his own money up, or was that the ownership group, which included Ryan? All it would have taken is one of the owners to say 'No', and there would have been no bid for Darvish. Yes, Daniels and his crew did the legwork on scouting Darvish for so long...but that is their job.
"You can't blame Daniels & Co. for signing Roy Oswalt. That was Nolan Ryan."
Again, really? Provide a link to an article, press release, or some other proof besides your assumption that Daniels was totally against Oswalt, and that Ryan overruled that.
And I completely disagree with what Durrett wrote about Nolan getting all the credit and Daniels doing the work. Daniels is widely respected and given plenty of credit. MLB Network and ESPN, when talking about the Rangers success, always begin with Daniels.
well at least nolan was smart enough to keep JD before everyone FELL in love with him, throughthe adrian gonzo throw in--great trade at the time and all u idots loved JD for that one--had a handin keeping wash too when people wanted him out too.
as someone mentioned, this is 2 idiot owners sticking their hands into a fairly fragile and complexmanagment situation that somehow worked cause nolan could cover a lot of butt with fans, media, and the baseball business in particular--which led to nolan getting credit from the media (as the frontman) which he deflected as often as possible.
he changed the culture in texas --this was a pitching wasteland prior to ryan...he challenged thepitchers work ethic and he brought in maddux...but lets re work history--Irving style and give JDcredit for that too...
who would 2 idiot owners make JJ look good...i say he's gone...don't blame him.
I understand that the billionaire owners twiddle dee and twiddle dum are busy commissioning statues of Jon Daniels, Thad Levine and A. J. Preller so that they get proper credit for all their hard work.
I wish the cheapasses would get us more pitching.Or does Nolan have a standing veto over that.
JD is the guy who we were all ready to tar and feather before Nolan got here to make sure Baseball was a consideration before the Kids made more trades with San Diego, Ho Chi Min acquistions, etc. Kids were ripping off the prior owners with crummy trades; GM's did not want to deal with them and refused to speak to Hicks for years after he gave ARod the bank.
No, the kids are better, but Nolan has made them better. We now having pitching, that's Nolan. We now have credibility, thats Nolan, we now expect to be competitive, that's Nolan and the way he conducts himself. Nolan has slowed the kids down to plan and then execute with integrity. Nolan has made the Texas Rangers and enterprise, not a video game for losers.
Nolan's life lessons and experiences have aged the kids beyond belief and both entities have worked and will continue to work as long as Nolan is with the Texas Rangers. And some how I don't think those two old farts with the purse strings will forget it.
I think lil' eric is still painting graffiti as the angry kid he used to be, but still is. He's just doing it in written column now. Unconformity to the end, lil' eric?
Young guy wins against the Grand Pa- no respect?Nerd gets the girl over the HS star athlete? New School wins over Old School? I think I view these aspects of you, very openly and obviously. Is that what spurs your anger> Your behavior?
Lil' eric, you really need to take care of your anger issues. It's not you against the world. No man is an island. There are intangibles in life, science and in Baseball.
Put down the mental paint & brush. Spray cans are toxic causing brain damage. Take care of those anger issues, kid. No man is an island. It's not U against the world.Meanerdtoo
Calm down Nerddick - take your meds.

Eh, I'm not so sure about that last part. Whenever pundits talk about tangible success -- trades, decisions, etc. -- they give credit to Daniels. Which they should. When they talk about intangible things, like "he brought a winning culture to the Rangers" or "He made that franchise tough and pitching-driven," then the credit goes to Nolan. Which may or may not be deserved.
In reality I think Jon Daniels is smart enough to know the importance of pitching. The Cliff Lee trade, anyone?
Also, don't be confused about ownership. Both Simpson and Davis have substantially more money invested in the franchise than Nolan Ryan. In acquiring Yu Darvish, all Daniels really had to do was convince the two of them. As for Roy Oswalt, no, I don't feel like wasting time on something I know I won't find. It's just my general assumption that Nolan was behind the Oswalt signing, because all of us on the saber-planet believed he would suck. And he sucked.
