What is your opinion of the A.J. Pierzynski signing?
MJH on accountability
profar, olt, and nathan for verlander and boesch
That is so dumb--forreal
Daniels is in "save money mode" since the Oswalt deal. ALL roster moves are coming from the inside, unless something falls into his lap. If Dom had a very equitable deal in mind for Porcello, it'd be done.
Boesch and Porcello for Feliz???
WoW---in a heart beat.Tigers not gonna hear that one.
Feliz has a million dollar arm and no work ethic.
The Tigers appear to like shortstop prospect Leury Garcia and right-handed pitching prospect Nick Tepesch. Detroit would want a third player added to the package, but the Rangers are reluctant to move even Tepesch.
The Tigers can't trade Brendan Boesch anyway. He's currently on the Yankees, and he's not very good anyway.
I like the idea of Porcello. I don't know precisely how good he can be. I don't think I'd want to give up the rumored package for him, as he's a FA in three years and will likely be getting expensive before then, and I'm just not sure he's worth it. If it was one good player go for it. Two I would strongly consider it. With the rumor of three needed I have to say pass.
If it came down to trading Leury Garcia and Nick Tepesch for Rick Porcello, I'd do it.
Don't get me sideways: I like both those guys a lot. They are, however, dispensable commodities. A future UTIL infielder on a first-division team (Garcia) and a future #4 starter with a #3 ceiling (Tepesch) are not the difference makers in Giancarlo Stanton or David Price-type trades.
If that's all it took to get Rick Porcello, who is still on the up trend, that would be a clever move. Perhaps for both teams. Last year Porcello had a 4.59 ERA, which was exacerbated by a .344 BABIP. His ground ball rate in 2012 (53.2%) suggests his infield defense -- featuring Miguel Cabrera, Jhonny Peralta and Prince Fielder -- probably let him down quite a bit. His xFIP was 3.89, and SIERA an even 4.00. This guy is already a #3 starter, and, to me at least, I think his ceiling is even higher than that.
As Rangers' fans we're groomed to love our prospects, and try to hold onto them as often as possible. In the average farm system, Leury Garcia and Nick Tepesch are probably the #5 and #7 prospects; in Texas, the reality is they are in the late-teens/20's. Those are the guys you trade.
JKolar: look when the post was made, he wasnt at the time
Missed that. Doesn't really change my premise much, Boesch still sucks.
And I have no problem trading Garcia or Tepsch but I just want to make sure that we're getting a return for them. Right now Porcello is the realized Tepsch. Unless Porcello's strikeout rate jumps a lot he's probably pretty much what he is.
It seems like we have a moratorium on smart trades this off season.
eric's trade idea makes too much sense. It might not pan out--but Porcello has definite upside .
Good news is that Martin Perez had the spot earned before that line drive--he will be back.Rangers dont need a 5th starter that badly anyway. Somebody will hold it down.
At least it won't be Tommy Hanson!
And as much as we were ready to see him go.........It's gonna suck not having Josh Hamilton in the batting order
For Garcia and Tepesch and another low ball with possible upside player in the mix....i say DO IT!
Don't be an idiiot steev.
If Porcello could post an fWAR of 2.9 in Arlington, and all you had to do to get him is trade two guys that are blocked from the 40 man roster, then you gotta make that happen.
I thought a Porcello was a type of mushroom.
