Forum > Giancarlo Stanton

What is the most you'd be willing to give up in a package for Giancarlo Stanton? I know that Jeffrey Loria is a tard baby, but it may be their only piece left to build around. I'm pretty sure I'd part with Olt/Perez/Holland/and maybe a couple of others. Including Profar may make it too steep, but that may be what Miami is asking for. I know it's all a pipe dream.

Just hypothetically, if you part with both Holland/Perez, who the hell pitches out of the #4/#5 spots in the rotation this year?

February 20, 2013 at 9:32 AM | Unregistered CommenterBZ

ill give perez, profar, and gentry

February 20, 2013 at 9:50 AM | Unregistered Commentertrickydick

Miami probably wouldn't want Holland or Gentry; not enough years of control. They can't really expect to contend for a few more years, at which point most of the value of such guys would be wasted.

Move on-this is getting old.

Wtf is a "trickdick?" Is it like a DILDO?

It's not too old for me and I'm 102!

I still have not heard the good reasoning for trading a 5 tool player, as Profar(SS)
for a 3-4 tool player, as Stanton(COF). What am I missing? The "prospect aspect"
vs. MLB Player? Then there's the total control value. It does not add up for me.
To make it more unreal, some want to throw in MORE players with Profar? Huh?

February 20, 2013 at 12:41 PM | Unregistered CommenterHubz

First off the only way I trade Profar is if I got Elvis resigned. If that were to happen then yes I would give up Profar, Olt and something else (not much else but something) for Stanton.

Hubz
If your trading Profar it's because he is blocked and doesn't do much good to the big league team in AAA. Stanton is the big bat we have been talking about needing and is cheap and controlable for several more yrs.

Hubz has his head buried in the sand and that is the nice way to say it.

I would not even hesitate to include Profar in a deal for Stanton.

The Marlins wouldn't want Holland because he makes too much money (by their standards) but I'd be willing to shell out a package with Profar, Olt, and Perez... but that wouldn't get it done. They would ask for the moon... and some team would give it to them. Think of the offensively starved teams right in our own division; the A's and Mariners both that have better farm systems and could offer a better package involving more blue chip prospects.

Stanton could be the best player in baseball right now and he is their one and only perennial all-star... and he's a fan favorite. He could push their hand and threaten to not show up but he wont do that... so he's going to remain a Marlin, at least in 2013. Can you imagine him hitting in our ball park though? Good Lord, he would put up scary, MVP type numbers every year.

I don't want to be a traitor by bouncing from this site but I'm getting tired of logging in everyday and there's no new content (from Joey, Mike, etc...) so does anyone know of another website where I could get my Rangers fix? I'm not a big fan of Lonestar Ball... and the Newberg Report is too sporadic and Jamey is a too much of a homer. I want a site like BBTiA where they tell you like it is, regardless of affiliation. Is there anything comparable out there? **Before you say "there's nothing to report on" you and I both know that's a crock of crap. There's plenty to talk about and there has been for the last month.

Other than the ones you mentioned, I only know of r/texasrangers.
It's a pretty slow site though.

Stanton got beaned today in spring training. Now you have to worry about concussion effects. Remember that Morneau has never really recovered from his.

I tend to agree with Hubz. If JD calls up and says, "yo, gimme GS and I'll give you a package of Olt, Profar, Perez + Borbon," that deal gets done in a heartbeat. I have a feeling that a lot of people would readily replace Borbon with someone like Odor, Alfaro or Buckel, which makes even less sense. Know why it hasn't happened? BC JD is not a dumbass. 18 years of those three are gonna provide a SHIT TON more WAR and surplus value than 4 of Stanton. Profar for Stanton str8 up maybe, but the whole 5 tool premium position thing for a COF is a legit arguement. We will all be glad that JD stood pat in a few years when Profar starts being a perineal top 5 MVP candidate.

Profar is a kid, yes he is considered to have maximum up side but he is still just a prospect. I don't see any team ready to jump up and give away a GS for this kid and three other, just prospects.

I think Hubz has it correct. I also think Daniels believes it also. The Rangers have been
working hard for Elvis' contract extention. That makes the "odd man out": Ian Kinsler.
He won't be going to the Florida teams. Rangers won't trade for Price and/or Stanton.

Daniels believes in his farm system. He'll build from within. Fill-ins will be one/two year
contracted vets. I don't think we'll ever see a $20+mm/multi year contract being a Ranger.
Times are a chang'n. Jon Daniels is leading the way with the throwback, "build from within".

If you didn't pick-up on that this winter, then you need to read some good baseball history.
The baseball wheel was reinvented by Branch "the Original Genius" Rickey. Just ask JD.

February 20, 2013 at 11:13 PM | Unregistered CommenterObi

Mmurph, what else could they possibly want? They are not going to contend anytime soon and obviously want to keep salaries low, so prospects are exactly what they would want. JD has held pat on his best prospects ever since the Danks trade, w/the exception of Cliff Lee. In that trade he only gave up 1 blue chip prospect. There has NEVER been a trade in which Daniels has given up 2 blue chip prospects, let alone 3-4. I am sure glad JD is our GM and not you. The key to sustaining a playoff team year after year is not to mortgage 3-4 blue chip prospects on 1 player. If you think that JD would make this trade you are nuts. The Rangers have inquired and the asking price is too high because the Marlins want a package like Profar/Perez/Olt. Look at the history of JD. Smoak is the only big name guy that has ever been traded to push us over the top, and that was done at the deadline. You really have no argument that can possibly support GS for those 3+ being a good deal for us. Peace out.

Yeah an unproven rookie[Profar] for Stanton. Pretty sure that gets done you idiot.

February 21, 2013 at 12:49 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoey M.

@Joey M. Learn how to read Troll. Didn't say it gets done but did say it doesn't get done if we give up our top 3 prospects. And yah, I don't even know that I'd do Profar for GS strait up. You can continue to agree with guys like Evan Grant on the issue while I choose to agree with guys like Keith Law.

February 21, 2013 at 8:35 AM | Unregistered CommenterATX

Look at this from the Marlins perspective. Miami would want 3 of 6 of the top 100 prospects that the Rangers currently have and one of their young bats. So you are discussing: Profar, Olt, Sardinas, Buckel, Alfaro and Perez and a young bat of: Brinson, Gallo, Guzman or Mazara. And if it does not include Profar, then 4 of the 6 and a young bat. If I were Miami then my choices would be: Olt, Sardinas, Perez, Alfaro and Brinson. All young, six + years of control, with high upside. The Marlins would view the trade of gaining a starting catcher with all star level potential, starting shortstop with outstanding range an excellent bat control, a power hitting third baseman with 30+ potential, a 5 tool centerfieldet, and a #3 starter. The big question would be why would the RANGERS do the trade? They could be trading away their future for one outstanding power hitter with some wholes in his game. Is it better to wait for St. Louis to need a shortstop to make it into the playoffs, and trade Andrus for TAVERAS?

yawn

February 21, 2013 at 10:01 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoey M.

Hell yah it would be better to wait and trade Elvis for Taveras, IF St. Louis was willing. I don't know they would be willing though. Agree with the Miami perspective (although I don't think Brinson, Gallo, Guz, Maz are eligible to trade quite yet, not sure though), that is what they would want. I don't think the Rangers would pull the trigger though. JD hasn't given up a lot of high upside prospects in trades other than Smoak (R. Erlin was fringe high upside, but he was also a fly ball pitcher which doesn't bode well in Arlington, and he was already in AA so the Rangers had a good idea of what he would become). I just don't think it is part of the Rangers philosophy to give up multiple high upside guys for 1 big bat. And for that I am thankful....
