Forum > Elvis interviewed on Ben & Skin Wednesday morning
Too bad for you - JD is one of those "nerds".
utb
He is just a nerd not a "nerd turd" like yourself.

Extending Elvis would be the next foul shoe to drop, as it will cost huge dollars to fill a shortstop position that can be filled much less expensively than Profar, eliminates Elvis' value as a trade piece, and continues the logjam at second base. The MIF problem can be solved only by moving one of the three MIFers out of position or trading Profar; extensions having diminished the trade values of Elvis and Kinsler. So no, unless Elvis takes a discount, extending him merely perpetuates the problem.

Why do we continue to live in this world where Andrus for Upton was even plausible? You do realize Andrus had less time til FA than did Upton. You do realize it took getting Prado to work out a nice extension to trade Upton.
That last sentence is not the case at all. In baseball, you don't trade players contingent on extensions after the trade. Toronto didn't want to give up d'Arnaud without a Dickey extension in the bag beforehand, but Arizona can't justify the deal just because they worked out a deal with Prado.
Like you said, Elvis has less time till FA than Upton. Combine that with Jurickson Profar waiting in the wings -- more developed, and at the same age Andrus was when he broke in to the Major Leagues -- and you're looking at a move the Rangers should have made.

Once again.....Andrus for Profar would not have been accepted, unless Andrus took an extension. Yes, there was probably a ton of talk about the fact that Prado would take an extension once traded, otherwise they wouldn't have traded for someone with 1 year left on his contract, and a bunch of worse prospects than what Texas could have offered.
IMaybe Andrus, Olt, Perez for Upton would have gotten it done without an Elvis extension, but I think we can all agree this would not be smart.

Do you people realize this is 1 week old news tomorrow?

You don't know this.

I suggest this post has run its course.

I don't think our resident nerd, Jon Daniels, is really playing "Money Ball" or by
the complete rules or system presented by Bill James. Why can't some of you
see and understand that? It really irks many here, that Elvis wasn't traded. LOL!
PT
utb---by your calculations Elvis is a top 40 player in mlb.
Where does the "great" or "elite" player level begin?
Are we just playing semantics?
Did you see the "Top 10 shortstops in baseball now" feature on mlb?
Everyone rates Elvis Andrus as a top 5 ss in baseball now. He's only 24 years old.
Even Bill James says that defensive stats are not definitive. They are somewhat subjective and sometimes you have to go by your gut instincts--or-heaven forbid--"watch the games"

OK let's move on. The original post was 7 days ago.

Top 40 hitter does not equal elite in my book. Regardless of the label, Elvis is approximately the 55th best player in baseball (including pitchers and hitters).
- There are 22 players who currently make $18+ million/year (none play SS)
- Jose Reyes is the highest paid SS at $17.6 million/year (Jeter - $17; Tulo - $15.7; Rollins - $11; Hanley - $11)
- In his last 4 full years, Reyes has averaged producing a WAR of 5.7
- in 2012, Andrus' best year, he produced a WAR of 4.2
There is no justification for paying Andrus like he is one of the best 20 players in baseball.
There is no justification for paying Andrus significantly more/year than Reyes.
If Andrus would be willing to sign a long-term deal for ~ $15 million/year, maybe it works. But Texas would be dumb to go beyond that.

So Elvis was interviewd on the radio 7 days ago and we are just now hearing about it. What the?

Obviously the front office still believes in intangibles, as in leadership. Defense still has significant value also.

I doubt it. They pay for wins, not leadership.

Whoooh! They paid for MY. And, his performance really never rated the $$$ he got. It was leadership.
David Draggle
Damn it David Draggle, how dare you question Eric Reining.
Not that Eric
And I'm pretty sure JD recognized his mistake.
MY's leadership was so important that JD tried to trade him every chance he got.

It's obvious that the Rangers do not follow Billy Beanes view, which in turn is SABR, per say Most all
teams are morphing into a hybrid version of some sort. After all Wash is Old School who plays the bunt,
steal, hit & run-move the runner system. That's not "Money Ball" at all. By the way, last time I viewed, Elvis
has not been traded for his maximum value, ugh worth. Something about leadership there. Daniels is not
openly dealing within the SABR spectrum. It's very hybrid, as I'm reading it.
Why did Beane stay at Oakland and turn down the big $12.5mm contract with Boston as GM?
RangerHomerSimpson

I hope the Rangers resign Elvis just so you nerd turds will shut the f&%$ up.
