Forum > Andrus Trade Possibilities
1) Cruz is untradable until the recent PED issue is resolved.
2) Why do you want Frucal?
The_Henchmen
I agree that the Cardinals would make an ideal trade partner for the Rangers. However, Holliday is 32 and and has 85 million left on his contract. If the Rangers trade Andrus, I believe they will want younger, cost-controlled talent in return.

I'd like to see a trade with St. Louis, but it would go more like this: Andrus, Moreland, Perez, Buckle, and Garcia for Taveras, Craig, and Miller.
Texas would have the two best infield prospects in the game as well as the top outfield prospect while marginally increasing their first base situation. They would only be giving up disposable pitching depth (Perez while still talented has fizzled, and Buckle; likewise talented, is undersized) while still acquiring a top ranked pitching prospect in Miller. Their middle infield depth would naturally suffer with the loss of Andrus and Garcia as well as the ensuing promotion of Profar, but they still have young and talented guys in Odour and Sardinas.
This deal would also give us enough to perhaps reel in Stanton without relinquishing Profar.

I would want Furcal Henchmen because he is experienced and would, I assume, be willing to be a mentor/teacher to Profar. He clearly isn't Andrus. I just think if we really wanted Andrus, by his play we would have already locked him up.

I don't see the Rangers trading anyone and not getting pitching in return. Plus the only way Andrus is traded is if the Rangers are out of contention and/or the compensation system is changed and no draft picks would be given for a free agent departure. With the way prospects are now valued, getting Taveras and Miller would be almost impossible. You must remember that any team getting Andrus will suffer the same fate as Texas - an inability to sign him before he hits the open market. Therefore Andrus' trade value is limited. Only a team in direct contention for the WS would want him and would know he's a rental. Plus the success of the Texiera deal makes a recurrence highly unlikely. Then any posssibility of a Stanton deal is just crazy. It will take 5 excellent prospects, with at least 2 being Major League ready, to get him. He's a great talent with plus plus power, but he strikes out a lot. The Rangers would be better off holding on to their prospects unless, and only if, a true ace becomes available.
LA_Ranger
Andrus is a client of Scott Boras, hence mostly the reason he is not already locked up "JCline". Boras's clients will wait till free agency and then go for the gusto.........plus the fact that in two years one could reasonably assume that Derek Jeters time in New York and possibly his career could be over........NYY could be big payday for Andrus and Scott Boras.

I don't think Profar needs mentoring at this point. Baptism by fire.
I don't think Shelby Miller is touchable in the STL system. Moreover, I don't think we'd sell Elvis so short. We want a young bat in return.
...or we'll wait until mid season to trade him to Philly for Cliff Lee + $$$ relief.

While I doubt that Stl. would give Taveras AND Miller, any trading of Elvis better be headlined with one of those guys and also be filled with at least two other legitimate prospects. There would be no reason for Texas to forfeit the two years of cheap AS Shortstop play for anything less than that.

What is the hurry to get rid of Elvis?
Not that Eric
I think we could get ONE of Taveras or Miller. I prefer Taveras, but either way I'd be happy. I think we could trade Elvis for Miller plus a lower level guy, but I think to get Taveras we would have to trade Elvis straight up. But the way prospects have been traded this offseason, only the good lord knows what we could get for Elvis.

So the Rangers have a top 5 shortstop in all of baseball and you want to trade him so we can play a 19 yr old minor leaguer. GREAT STRATEGY.
Not that Eric
Better. At least in this post, you've offere what it is you don't like. Top 5 may be cutting Elvis a bit short, though. I think he's at teast top 3 and maybe top 2. His range is excellent (could use a bit stronger arm or attack the ball a bit more instead of waiting back on it), his consistency is good and he makes good decisions. Defensively, there are a couple of shortstops out there that are better (Alexi in Chicago, Rollins in Philly), but, their bats aren't as good. Well, if Rollins could focus, he has MVP-caliber abilities, but he doesn't bring that to the park most days, anymore.
Offensively, Elvis dominates Ramirez and, at this point, is considerably better than Rollins. Desmond, Reyes, Castro and Hanley may be better offensive players than Elvis, but their defense isn't that good (Hanley HAS been as good, but he's getting bigger and his range has declined - his consistency has never been there).
Given my choice between Elvis and any other SS in baseball right now - I'd choose 1) Elvis; 2) Desmond; 3) Castro; 4) Asdrubal; and 5) Rollins.
So, why WOULDN'T a team do what they could to keep a still-developing Elvis in their lineup rather than punt and try something else? Elvis is only getting stronger and his range is not declining and his decision-making is still getting better. Kid's only 24!

Trade two years of Andrus, a replacement 1st baseman, two MORP's and a utility infielder, for two top-10 prospects and Allen Craig? Methinks St. Louis wouldn't do that. We could add Mike Olt and they still wouldn't do it.
I'd rather try to swing Elvis Andrus for Gerrit Cole in Pitt.

Screw this trading Elvis. That's just ignorant.
Not that Eric
David you will have to drop Andrus down a notch or two, you overlooked by far the #1 shortstop in the MLB, TROY TULOWITZKI. and you overlooked the #2 in Jose Reyes..and this over a half decade.and both still at their most productive years.

I was excited about this upcoming season bc I thought Profar was going to be an everyday player, but now that he's going to AAA, was there to look forward to?

Elvis isn't a top 5 SS in the game. He is on the border, but he isn't there YET. He will get there though. Here is the thing, if we are going to keep Elvis, than keep him. If we aren't than might as well trade him, and if we can get Oscar Taveras in return for Elvis, than I see no reason not too.

Hey Guys! I was looking at current MLB rosters and trying to find spaces for Andrus and came up with, what I think, is a potentially great trade. My trade is Andrus and Cruz for Holiday and Furcal. Furcal would be a good mentor for Pro far and would not have to be prepped for a whole season of work. Holliday would be a great replacement for Hamilton this season considering the options that have been available this offseason. Not an Upton though. Cruz would offset the loss of Holliday somewhat and Andrus would be their SS for years to come. St. Louis would be able to sign him to a big contract with what they gain in space with Holliday gone. Seems like a good trade to me what do you guys think?
