Forum > will the value of profar and olt decline after this offseason?
They're both still top 15 prospects and Profar is top 2 so as of now I'd say no. Especially with someone as young as Profar.

Doesn't worry me a bit. I'm closer to dancing than I am to concerned. I'm sooooooo glad they are both Ranger players right now.
These two studs will either stay Rangers, or JD will wait for a spike in demand...which will come either in the Spring when somebody gets hurt or looks suddenly old...or next trade deadline.
Who in their right mind is eager to trade Profar?

I don't think Profar's stock can get much higher. Not sure about Olt. I think both could possibly go down, but it's not a sure thing.
Andy
@Andy...what? That's covering all bases! LOL Profar stock could be much higher...not sure about Olt, both could be down, but not a sure thing.
That is an undecided statement from you!! LOL are you drinking? You usually are much better than that. I am not picking on you....like "not that eric" I just chuckled when I read that. No need for name calling.

Put me in the minority, but I'd say odds of their value declining are significantly higher than improving. No position for either player, and when they get pulled up there is a chance they have a slow adjustment only to be sent back down because the inured starter returns...
I would love to see them prove me wrong.

With the way these guys have progressed through the system nothing tells me they are in for a down year at AAA. In thier first year in AAA if they put up big numbers how they have in the minors so far by mid season you have two prospects whose value has only gone up. Maybe even both top 10 propects. Come the all-star break teams are going to be willing to sell, and all of the that do will be looking for the next "big" thing and we might have two of them.
Olt and Profar going to AAA and starting everyday is a good thing. They will get a chance to strut their stuff at a higher level against better competition. The worst thing you can do with a prospect is rush them.

IMO Olt's stock peaked at the trade deadline and he's unlikely to be perceived as high in the near future. He's almost 25 years old; he's unlikely to get significant playing time at his best position (3B).
I guess if he stays at AAA all season and is blasting the ball and playing excellent 3B there will be a big market for him at 2013 trade deadline. But most of us think it's pretty silly for him to be spending more time in the minors.
As for Profar...he's 19 freakin' years old. He CAN stay in the minors for another year and I'd be okay with that. His stock could yet increase...and I'm in no hurry to see him traded.

MrMan,
I tend to agree with you across the board. This is actually Olt's age 24 season but at 24 in AAA he's already view as a year older than the optimal age for AAA. Profar at 20 and in AAA is so far ahead of the curve it's funny.
Pitch
@ozzie33: Profar is pretty widely regarded as either the #1 or #2 prospect in baseball. He could singlehandedly fetch a ton of impact players from other clubs if the Rangers wanted to trade him. I doubt he'd pull Stanton by himself, but he could get something really big. How much higher can you get than that?
Andy
Clarification: he could fetch one of a ton of impact players. Maybe 2, depending on how desperate the GM is and how big an "impact" they'd have.

Olt was born in '88. This is his age-25 season.

Value for Profar is pretty much set. He is so young that even if he doesn't absolutely kill AAA, his value won't take a hit because of his age and supreme talent. Olt, however, could see a hit in value if he doesn't show the same type of power he showed last season. His age is an issue and I think his value (particularly if we hold on to him for this entire season) could be greatly affected by if he gets the shot to start in the bigs with the Rangers.
This is why I think Olt and Profar are staying, unless Olt gets dealt at the deadline this season. Olt is going to come up at some point this year to play 1B unless Mitch somehow has a career year. If he plays well, the club will keep him in that role a la Mark Teixeira switching from 3B to 1B. If he comes up and doesn't do so hot, his value goes down quite a bit and therefore wouldn't fetch as much on the trade market as he did before the season.

"Olt was born in '88. This is his age-25 season."
This is a misleading statement. He'll be 25 at the end of August. He'll be 24 for 5 out of the 6 months.
Andy
I dont really know which way their going to move, but you can bet Elvis value will fall as the season goes along.. and he loses "time" in trade value... and Jon is blowing smoke saying we want to extend him... sure he WANTS to but the $$$ will not be there.... and he missed the boat for not trading elvis for upton... and he knows that now!!
just a bad winter for the Rangers FO.

is bbtia forum dead, has joey quit?

it seems to me that the longer they go untraded the more their stock decreases. is this usually the case?
