Nate Robinson to BBIA?! He'll be the shortest NBA and MLB player! I guess JD and co. really are sticking with the plan of giving the little guy a shot this season...

I was going to make a joke about the Mets being interested in Roy Oswalt, but then the Raners made this signing, and I shamfully shook my head and withheld my ridicule...

This is a solid signing. He is a platoon guy who can play all IF positions but SS and all OF positions but CF. This guy has pop. JD knows what he is doing and "Profar will be a superstar" @everyone. I'm ready for this season. I like this team as it is currently constructed if Mr. Profar comes up in May. Ready for a pennant chase guys!

the guy can throw it down.

If you told me we came to terms with a Scott Boras client, he's about the last name I would have come up with.

Hey... all reports had the Rangers "talking with Scott Boras"... guess now we know about whom they were talking... lol

Here's hoping he goes further than Brad Hawpe.

Is it safe to assume if he does well in ST he will take Brandon Snyders role with the rangers?

January 27, 2013 at 10:33 AM | Unregistered CommenterJoker

That's a reasonable assumption. It also assumes Snyder doesn't impress, though.

As I recall, when he was playing (semi) regularly, Snyder wasn't doing so bad. Better than I had expected. He even hit a few dingers. Once he got to play only once every 2-3 weeks, he couldn't do much.

Whoever gets the job, I hope he gets to play more often. We will have to go to the bench a little more often this year since we're playing a few more NL games, let alone if we should get to the WS.

@Rangerbourne: that's good stuff... you made me smile!

@Andy... I agree with you (for the 1st time ever) that Snyder did do well with the opportunities he was given. I too remember him coming up big in a few games. It goes back to what I said the other day, baseball players are like basketball players in that they run hot/cold but need to find a rythm...and the only way they can find that rythm is by playing on a regular basis. With that said, Snyder would probably be exposed if he played 5 games a week... but I'm terrified that if Profar and Olt make the 25 man roster, Wash won't play them. He hates playing rookies and has zero tolerance for fundamental mistakes. When Elvis came up it seemed like Wash was bitching and moaning about him every other day. He would rather sacrifice the talent for sound decision makers... which I agree with to a point but if someone's (i.e. MY) in decline and you stand a better chance with a younger player, by all means play the younger player.

Baker's career stats: .296/.344/.498 against left handed pitching... as a spot starter, that's more than serviceable....whether it's spelling Moreland, or Murphy or someone else... let's hope that last year (when he was terrible) was an aberration

Oh, that stealthy Daniels. Never a word about Baker. WHATTA COUP!

January 28, 2013 at 12:03 AM | Unregistered CommenterPT

Good move IMO very low risk for a (hopefully) platoon partner for Moreland and murph

Meh, good platoon player with an established record. Not a sexy signing but a useful one. I like it.
