Sorry, that should have said "send Olt to Atlanta"

Also, the WBC starts in 5 weeks, not 2. Point still stands. Profar is healthy.

Hey man that is like your opinion bro. It's just me and this conspiracy theory I have on why we didn't do the logical thing of trading elvis for Upton.

Maybe JD is so afraid of making a bad deal, hes not willing to take a chance. Upton is risky because of his inconsistency. Or maybe JD has his sights set on bigger fish (Stanton and/or Price), and isnt willing to weaken his trade pieces. I know TB and miami wouldnt take andrus, but maybe a 3 way trade with andrus going somewhere else for prospects and then those prospects going to TB or miami. Whatever the case may be, I know theres a reason and a plan.

Srch, why does JD need to get rid of either Andrus or Profar now? Let's just assume for the sake of argument that they're both healthy. Giving Profar some more seasoning in AAA and extending his team control by "x" isn't a bad thing.

It's not like the window has closed on an Elvis trade. Certainly they can get something of value at the trade deadline for him... maybe they can get what they see as a lot more for him than Upton...they may even be able to get a very valuable asset for him next off season... (isn't that just what happened with Prado)?

First I don't see JD bringing in Price, because he won't pay him in free agency/extension dollars. Stanton is a possibility if the Marlins decide to ditch him but I really think you are waiting a couple of years for that. Unless, we bring a pitcher up through the system that is an ace, then we must behappy with Darvish. As far as trading Andrus, I am split on this issue. I love Elvis and I can see him as the new face of the franchise but then what happens with Profar? I seriously doubt JD will invest the money Andrus will demand in extension/free agency. However, with the "Rangers talkign to Boras" and supposedly out on Lohse and Bourn you have to wonder what they are discussing...maybe Elvis extension? Maybe that is JD's plan for saving face this offseason? I DO NOT consider this a failure of an offseason. But I do question a lot of the logic espoused here and other sites as well as comign from JD.

Went from doubting JD's williingess to deal Elvis to reassuring yourself that there is a plan within the same post.
Our new target is Price and or stanton right?

Price- Dealing with Friedman? Expect to get pounded bad (wanted to use rape but i am trying to not say that word anymore) look at what he fetched from the Cubs in the Garza trade, the the shields trade. Any call with JD that doesn't involve Profar will probably end in a hurry. We rangers fans rate JD highly, but I don't think there is anyone that would oppose to someone saying that Friedman is a better GM than Daniels.

Stanton- Who knows what the Marlins owner is thinking, but if our our plan is to wait until they cave and decide they are going to trade their disgruntled superstar then expect a worse outcome than the Upton sweepstakes. for once, Stanton has zero say on where he can play and he is getting league minimum. I don't doubt that one day we will wake up and read that they have traded Stanton, but to think that we could keep Profar seems a bit outlandish.

That being said, if we can find a team that can fetch the prospects to land a proce/stanton then why not keep those prospects? I know us Rangers fans have been spoiled for the last three years of constant success but if we can trade Elvis' two years for real good prospects then we can build for the future when all of the OF's in our farm are ready to go. sadly, this approach would basically waste at least two years of Yu's service here in Texas along the best two remaining years of Beltre's defense but it might be somewhat worth it.

The other idea is to use Elvis' last two years worth of WAR + the compensation pick to remain competitive while the OF struggles. The problem with that is Profar being blocked and the fact that draft picks are somewhat of a crapshot unless you have a rather early pick. Our OF will look even worse next year when Murphy and Cruz both become FA; maybe JD will extend one of the two, even though both players have serious concerns be it Cruz's longevity/constant hot and cold streaks or Murphy's inability to hit lefties..

I just don't see Mr Profar being in the minors for very long at all. This guy could be an all star rookie, those guys don't stay in the minors. The best idea is for Kinsler to just be a teammate and change positions when this happens.

Certainly they can get something of value at the trade deadline for him...

I sort of address this point in the post above, but here are the options for Andrus and value
a) Trade him now and get maximun return from him + Profar WAR as a rookie
The drawback on this one is losing Profar's last year of service
b) Trade him at the deadline for a less than maximun package + 1/2 of Profar's War as rookie + 1 extra year of Profar service
This one might be the best scenario remaining. However, it will depend on where the Rangers are in the standings by the deadline. What if we are 2 gsmes back of the Angels but someone is really interesteded in Andrus
c) Trade Andrus next offseason We get andrus' WAR for 2013 mayb e a decent return from a trade + one extra year of Profar service
Drawback here would be finding a considerable return for andrus that would hopefuly fill a COF hole
d) Trade him at the 2014 deadline, which would then eliminate the possibility of a compensation pick but we would get 1.5 years of Andrus' war at the expense of .5 years of Profar's war

maybe they can get what they see as a lot more for him than Upton.
This one I seriously doubt given the fact that our biggest hole for the future is COF

May be Kinsler should take over infield super utility role this year and let Profar play 2B ? I know he has never played at any other position than 2B, but if face was out SUIF guy last year, surly Kinsler can do better than him.

Keeping our GUNS loaded until the Trade Deadline or NOBAMA confiscates them. Profar, Olt, Buckel & Martin Perez light it up in AAA. Then we unload some of them for David Price or King Felix in that order. Only make those trades if players agree to contract extensions. Our offense will survive. It's always going to be pitching & defense that wins.

@Pablo: Gentry actually had slightly better defensive numbers than Bourn last year. Seriously. It takes several years to make much of a comparison, and defensive stats are still not as good as we'd like, but there's every reason to think Gentry's as good a defender as Bourn, if not better. He's just not as proven as Bourn.

There are so many ways we can spend that money better than on Bourn. Lohse would be a much better upgrade over our #5 starter than Bourn over our CF platoon.

I really think JD is talking to Boras about extending Elvis. I really think that kid has the potential to be the new face of the franchise. As for Kinsler, he shoudl either be traded or moved to another position, honestly I think he would translate well to LF. His arm may not be that great but the bat and speed translate well out there in my eyes. Then Profar should be our 2B. Garcia becomes your utility IF. Moreland should be fine at 1B. AJP is a stop gap measure which we will continue to use until Alfaro is ready, not necessarily AJP but a catcher. Teh only real holes I see on this team are in the outfield, Martin is the CF of the future unless he royally fumbles this season. Cruz is not the answer longterm in RF so we need a RF, as far as LF if they move Kinsler there I think we may be set for a few years. However, a young stuf corner outfielder would not be a bad investment unless you look at it as a desperate need. Basically, SS and 3B are set for the foreseeable future unless we trade Sardinas,Olt, Gallo, etc.

But for the record I do not see Stanton nor Price in a Ranger uniform anytime in the immediate future. We had a better shot at Shields and after seeing what KC gave up for him I am not sure we ever had a real shot at Shields. Stanton will command a massive haul because while the Marlins are run like a kindergardener runs his toybox, they are not stupid.

Actually, I don't give a ratzazz whether the trade was fair. It sux that Upton is NOT a Ranger.
Granted, good trade for Atlanta, but nothing is automatic. We still need a stick in the middle
and a defensive, talented COF to replace Cruz. I saw that player in Upton and I am disappointed.
