Anyone else comforted by the fact our hitting coach is a liftetime .390 OBP guy who walked more than he struck out?

Maybe it will be a change of scenery here.

If he could clone himself 9 times I'd be interested. Otherwise, it's going to be the players -- not the coaches -- in the batter's box.

Yes, I'm looking forward to seeing how our team performs under his tutelage. Having Lance Berkman (one of the most patient guys in recent history) in our lineup shouldn't hurt, either.

The Rangers were tied with 3 other teams for 18th place in walk percentage in 2012. They were 4th in OBP, though. If they walked more, they could lead the league in OBP (which they actually did for a while in 2012). That would be a very good thing.

I'm hoping for more free passes this year. Free passes turn base hits into RBIs. This isn't rocket surgery.

WTF is "rocket surgery"???

You know! It's a combination of rocket science and brain surgery. It originated in the mid-14th century, most commonly practiced present day by alchemists.

Question

Is the concept of WAR, X-WAR, SOB-WAR or whatever your favorite sabermetric measurement is cumulative?

If Dave Magadan is able, by teaching a superior approach at the plate to add +0.5 WAR on average to each of the Rangers 9 starters does that equal the Rangers signing a single 5.5 War player who replaces a +1.0 player?

I think chances are that Magadan will only have an impact on two to three players, perhaps the younger ones like Martin, Profar. He might have an impact on role players like Moreland, Gentry, Soto. I have hard time believing someone like Cruz or Kinsler will be open to change this late in their careers/

If Magadan can't get Kinsler to tweak his mechanics (or at the very least, his mental approach), then he will be a failure in Arlington.

LOL Andy.....rocket surgery......mind if I use that one sometime?

rocket surgery? yeah, it's called testosterone. Magadan has enough, maybe not for Kinsler though.
I hope Dave is enough oinfluence, that he'll be the Rangers new skipper by 4th of July. Yippeeeee!

@vugdub: I don't mind, but I didn't coin that phrase. I also didn't coin "douchecopter", which I use on occasion.
