Forum > DBacks WILL TRADE Upton or Kubel...

According to MLBTR, AZ will trade Upton or Kubel by friday 25th Jan.
Atlanta seems the front runner for Upton and is close to a package deal.
No mention of Rangers interest on either player. No Upton for TR 2013?

That's new news....

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/01/rangers-moving-on-from-justin-upton-1.html

not.

Olney said Braves are moving in hard. I would assume that probably means he's not going there. The fact that the rangers aren't involved probably means they will make the trade.

Summary: no one knows anything.

Oh, here we go again....

Seriously, no offense Obi, but the J.Upton topic has been beaten to death, resurrected, and been slowly and painfully beaten to a miserable death again.

Heard ATL in the mix...but alluding to the title of the thread, I wonder what the motivation is of some of these teams to put together a big package to send to AZ when teams now obviously know AZ has gotta move somebody. Of course, I say the same type of thing about Boras clients that are unsigned every January and that seems to work out for them...

January 23, 2013 at 4:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterTB

The motivation is simple- they have to beat the best offer of the competition. The market isn't dictated by how badly a team needs to sell a player, it's dictated by how much other teams value the player and are willing to offer.

Justin Upton might be traded, the Sun will rise in the East and set int he West.

This is almost as annoying as the yearly Brett Favre non retirements.

I saw Elvish the other day.

Oh wait that was Lance Berkman

There is a resemblance between Berkman and Napoli that's a bit unsettling.

And if I hear the Rangers connected to Upton one more time without it actually being said that a trade happened, I will hurt someone.

God, please DON"T trade for either one of the. PLEASE DON'T

the DBacks seem to be floating out contracting messages about Upton. The value him highly based on what they say that they need to trade him. On the other hand the fact that he is a young, reasonably priced borderline star level player that they are willing to talk about and try to trade to teams on his no trade list says something else. In the long run I'm not sure that the DBacks don't really need to trade both Kubel and Upton. They currently have Parra, Polluck, Upton, Kubel, Ross and Eaton all pretty much ready for outfield spots on their team. Kubel is a DH that they signed to play OF.

But at this point until they actually do something it is well past the point of beating a dead horse. And I still think that Towers really just has issues with his methodology of thinking.

@BZ
Sure, the topic is dried & ls pure seculation. Daniels sh0uldve had this wrapped up
weeks ago. Instead, we walk away with a big loss, in my opinion. Others in here can spin
the budget bit or the golden prospect profunditie, but we're missing a big bat in Upton.
Almost as bad, we have to see Cruz play COF in 2013 as a Ranger.

January 23, 2013 at 8:32 PM | Unregistered CommenterPT

I don't think Upton is THAT much of an upgrade for next year above Nellie. If Nellie gets hot he could potentially put up up to 3.5-4 WAR again.

Obviously Upton's value for us lies more in the fact we would control him for three years, and that we are losing Murphy and Cruz to free agency after next year.

After next year Upton is going to cost 28 million over two years. That is not cheap, not expensive but not cheap either. I also understand that after next season the market will be replete with bats.

Bottom line is that, while I have been very enthusiastic about the possibility of Upton coming here, my resolve has seriously decreased regarding that possibility. Leave out the fact that Towers is an idiot and a freak. I just don't think Upton is worth Olt and Perez plus for three years at nearly 40 million. He might turn out to be a solid five WAR guy, or he could have difficulty with league transition and repeat a 2 WAR performance before getting in a groove or continuing mediocrity into his prime earning years.

I just don't like any of these options anymore, just keep Olt and see where he goes or try to trade him for Stanton when he comes available.

JD, don't call him back. He had his chance now leave him to rot. Lets roll with what we have.

No to Olt, Perez, Sardinas

No to Olt. Buckel, Garcia, plus

No to Olt and Elvis, hell no

No to all of the above.

Lets just role with what we have or take Bourn if we can get him cheap on a one to two year deal.

I love how JD just walked away, and I believe he really did. Dumbass Towers is probably waiting for him to call. If he knows what is good for him he better call JD. Regardless, I'm done here as I believe JD and Nolan are.

"Its him or me" Ryan probably wouldn't let JD call Towers back even if he wanted to. If you say you are done you are done, walk away. If the other guy doesn't have the humility to call you back then he's not selling anyways.

Tell him to f off back to Arizona and to have a wonderful bullshit vacation.

Finito and see you in camp.

ROFL. It's not a macho duel Joe, it's a business decision to make ones team better.
Call it Tweak 401, if you will.

January 23, 2013 at 9:04 PM | Unregistered CommenterPT

You really think this is not about virility and competition?

You obviously do not understand the game of baseball if you think you can reduce the FO to simple suits engaged in business dealings that have nothing to do with manly competition. All men duel, maybe PT stands for Patricia Tamara?

The hope is that those duels can be civil rather than contentious. The Rangers are not the ones acting like fools. The f off bit was directed at Towers as he has universally come to be regarded as an idiot... probably because he is one.

January 23, 2013 at 9:18 PM | Unregistered CommenterJoe

The 25th is only thought of as a deadline because Towers is headed to Africa on vacation. He did say that it in fact was not a deadline. The Braves however have made an offer, and could be decided on by then or goes into a holding pattern.

I agree with PT completely. He's dead on and nail on the head. Former or now FO, Sir PT?

There's an old saying in any successful sales game: "Don't fall in love with the inventory".

I think Joe might have once negotiate for a used car. He's obviously a knowledegable pro.
