According to Gil LeBreton of The Star Telegram. Good luck Elvis!

I think that is an accurate appraisal of Elvis.

Why must teams possess a Face?
Why must teams start with their Ace?
Why, two years, they'll be displaced;
We, as fans, will have new Face?

I do not know, and never will,
I'm all for wins, and all for skill.
Old Face is dead, twas overkill,
Overrated, run of the mill.

Rest in pieces, Mr. Young,
Andrus' time has just begun.
When he's gone, another one,
I have to say, this ain't no fun.

Tommy Pickles, nice job, my man!! There's some REAL talent on this board.

I concur, good poem Tommy. Excellent use of iambic pentameter, and best, to your point with succinct clarity.

January 20, 2013 at 6:49 PM | Unregistered Commenterles

Danka. But it's not iambic pentameter. Iambic pentameter is 10 syllables per line, and I believe they alternate between stressed and unstressed something or other.

Tommy, where are you getting ten out of penta]. I give up, you win whatever game you are playing. I pay you a complement and you apply your cynical criticism, it does not matter if you are right are wrong, the complement should have been taken in the context of just that [ though I suggest you go back to a dictionary ].

January 20, 2013 at 9:23 PM | Unregistered Commenterles

You get ten out of 'penta' because it's referring to five pairs of unstressed/stressed syllables.

January 21, 2013 at 12:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterSean

And he did say thank you ("Danka") fwiw.

January 21, 2013 at 12:16 AM | Unregistered CommenterSean

les, don't be so sensitive. I said thank you. (Danka = "thanks," as Sean clarified.)

As for iambic pentameter, I was just being more specific. Now you know what it means for future reference.

Also, the form of "complement" you used is more like "Debby's yellow bow in her hair complements her yellow dress," whereas the other form of compliment, as you used it, is spelled like so.

Kinsler is Face.
Elvis would be Face, but...........
Elvis will be a Yankee next year.

January 21, 2013 at 9:20 AM | Unregistered Commenterjuricksoon

Yankees don't have the prospects it will take to get Elvis after the season. The Cardinals with Oscar Tavares and Shelby Miller seems like a better match. Yankees have ignored their farm system for years and JD won't trade Elvis for B- level prospects.

Wow Champ that is GREAT insight.

Sorry I meant 2 years from now.

January 21, 2013 at 2:45 PM | Unregistered Commenterjuricksoon

I don't know if that is even the case. If a big club like the Cardinals, Giants, Red Sox, or Dodgers trade for him after the season or if its a dumpster fire this year and have to be sellers at the deadline (don't think its happening) then Boras and Elvis would consider resigning with a big club. I hope the Rangers give him his 18-20 mil a year that he is asking. Franchise SSs that are championship caliber are rare to find. I would keep Elvis and Profar because Elvis already is and Profar will be an all star. I think he would be this year if they let him play everyday but probably Jurickson Profar is an all star in 2014.

Pay Elvis 18-20 million?

Where are you going to play Profar and Elvis? Trade Kinsler? Sounds good to me. Let's get it done...oh wait. He has almost no trade value at this moment according to those who rate these things. Trade him next year after he has a bounceback year? That's great! Except his contract is designed to actually provide equivalent or even surplus value towards the end of the contract at his natural position...

So, in essence, you're saying we should re-sign Elvis, move Kinsler and play Profar at a position at which his bat doesn't profile as well as it would at his natural position (also, Profar has a higher ceiling than Elvis according to those who rate these things - and at a MUCH cheaper price)?

Pass.

January 22, 2013 at 2:22 AM | Unregistered CommenterTxball

Why move Kinsler who is locked up at a reasonable price, when you could trade Elvis for much more right now. 18-20 million is a lot for a SS without homerun power. He and Boras can ask for it but I don't see him getting that much annually. Im comfortable paying him that 18-20 mil in his peak years, but Id much rather pay 16 million annually for someone like Elvis.

January 22, 2013 at 6:40 AM | Unregistered Commenterjuricksoon

We were willing to pay 25 million a year to a headcase choke artist in Josh Hamilton who always blamed his struggles on his relationship with Jesus. What issues does Elvis really have other than the best range in baseball at his position and always smiling and having a good time when he plays. Give Boras what he wants. Elvis saves runs more than he scores them. Keep Profar and put him at 2B. Kinsler can be the new MY with the potential to play OF. I would keep all 3. If we willing to pay a choke artist in Hamilton 25 million a year whats wrong with paying Elvis 18 a year. BTW, Elvis was a much better player in October. That's all I care about is winning those 11-12 games in October.

In fairness to Josh, he was playing through a groin injury in the 2011 playoffs, which is what made the Roy Hobbs home run all the more impressive. But I agree that Elvis is less streaky and more of a constant. I can't blame the Rangers if they're not willing to give Elvis $18-20m AAV, but all things considered I'd rather spend that on Elvis than Josh, if the choice were between the 2 of them.

11 wins in October. That's all we want.

Champ: holy cow, are you high? JD was never going to pay Josh $25M/year. Josh is streaky, not a choke artist. If you want to be shortsighted and base his entire career on the last 4 months of the 2012 season, go ahead and reafirm your ignorance and shortsightedness. His home run in game 6 of the 2011 WS would have gone down as an epic moment in baseball history (considering his injury) if our bullpen didn't fail us once again. I appreciate what Josh did for this club and while I'm not happy about him being an angel, I'm not about to bash him now that he is gone like a girl that got stood up at the prom. He made the Rangers relevant for the first time EVER. Baseball is a business, stop being so butt-hurt.

Not paying Elvis $18M/year. His bat makes him maybe worth $12M/year.

Champ: he didn't "blame his struggles on his relationship with Jesus". He credited Jesus for being the reason he wasn't dead in a ditch. Please stop posting, you're making yourself look like an imbecile...
