Here's some interesting reads courtesy of shutdowninning

Leonys Martin

Martin Perez

Anyone else have any lazy comps for these 2 players?

I'll do one for Profar:

Floor: Carlos Guillen w/ a slightly better glove

Ceiling: Barry Larkin

I wish: Ernie Banks

I remember Julio Borbon was supposed to be Johnny Damon. That didn't work out well.

As far as lazy comps, SDI gave about as lazy a valuation as one could conjure up. If the floor is an established big leaguer, and the ceiling is a superstar, then you're leaving yourself quite a bit of leeway. I also disagree with the comps of Martin because his skill set isn't anything like Laynce Nix or Carlos Gonzalez. Talk about throwing in the goddamn towel.

As far as Jurickson Profar goes, I'd like to think he has a higher floor than Carlos Guillen, and a higher ceiling than Barry Larkin. But its really difficult to measure a player like Profar, because there aren't many rangy shortstops with strong arms and good base running instincts who also possess the ability to hit 250-300 home runs in their career.

Name recognition alone could net him 5-7 Gold Gloves (as arbitrary as GG's are [Michael Young, ahem]), and he's certainly on the fast track to be the best hitter at his position in the AL.

How about a healthy Tulowitzki for Profar ceiling? I realize he doesn't have the range or arm of Tulo, but the bat could be there. That's nice for a lazy comp haha.

THE LAZIEST: MARTIN PEREZ FLOOR: WILSON ALVAREZ, FOR THE RANGERS ONLY, LIFETIME ERA : INFINITY. CEILING: BABE RUTH, began his HOF career as a pitcher .

you think profar is Jose Reyes right now!?!?

January 18, 2013 at 2:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterYP

or is that the most likely scenario

January 18, 2013 at 2:46 PM | Unregistered CommenterYP

profar is good at defense. i don't think jose reyes is very good at defense. a lot of jose reyes' value comes from stolen bases. is profar known for that?

January 18, 2013 at 3:27 PM | Unregistered Commenterwingsofjoy

yeah Reyes is a high contact, average-ish BB rate speedster. Profar is more of a pretty good OB skills, good contact player with good speed and probably a bit more power potential. Reyes obviously has been a top SS for years but they aren't really that similar in skill set.

How can you justify 'numbers' on a kid who has less than 25 AB's in the show? Non-sense. Find your legos and play with them on the dinning room table.

Andy, that might be the simplest & BEST post you've made in the off season.
I agree.
I'll hate to see Elvis traded.
We haven't seen the best of him yet.
