Feliz just signed a $2.9 m deal, leaving only Murphy as arbitration eligible. Unclear as to length, MLB called it a one year deal, but is it for 2013 or 2014. He was at standard, but also may only pitch two months, that is if on schedule and lucky, in 2013. So unclear if pro-rated.

2013

It's definitely for 2013, not 2014. The arbitration process only works one year at a time so you would never see someone in arbitration for their 2014 salary until after the 2013 season is over.

And no way in hell it's pro-rated. When a guy gets hurt and goes on the DL, he gets his full paycheck - so he will be paid for a full season even if he doesn't throw a single pitch in 2013.

Then the Rangers did the right thing. It seems they usually do, especially with Nolan in charge. In Feliz's situation they are paying him for past performances, being he will not have an opportunity to do much until September. It does avoid an arbitration case, where an arbitrator has to also take in consideration Feliz's ability to perform in 2013. Classy move by the Rangers.

This isn't a special case. It's typical business. Feliz was set to make $3.1 million through arbitration anyway, so the Rangers probably saved themselves between $200K and $500K by agreeing to a $2.9 million deal.
