I remember a couple of years ago when he was the darling of pretty much every internet baseball writer. he seemed to be making good moves left and right. i begin to wonder what went wrong? I think the biggest part might be he made a huge mistake with pinning himself to Figgins and dropping Beltre. But it really seems that the core of it is that pretty much everything he did just didn't work right.
I guess the Cliff Lee deal from the Phillies was a good one, but the trade out of him basically got Smoak, Jaso, and Beaven. A lot of his other moves basically looks like things that were a decent idea when it started and basically became mistakes later on. Right now he seems to be fixing problems that they don't have an misbuilding a team while doing it.
With the fences back, Jack Z tried to build around pitching and speed. He had the rookie mgr to do it, but the power west and Figgins-fail almost buried his foresight. Simply put, the players underperformed.
