Forum > Maybe this is why we don't have a deal with Arizona...
Towers has lost any negotiating power he has, they are pretty much going to have to move Kubel or Upton and aren't going to get for either what they think they will get. Teams are getting more and more reluctant to give up their very top prospects while taking on an annual salarly of ten figures.

In other news, water is wet. I think we all know towers might be the most clueless gm in baseball besides miami's gm.

Towers is no more clueless than your beloved Daniels. Get him to make a legit offer and you would be more than welcome to have Upton. And if you get him good luck with that,
Ariz. Fan
So, Ariz. Fan, what in your mind is a legit offer?
MM
@ AZ fan I am originally from AZ so I feel your pain with the dbacks but Towers is "THE" biggest problem with the organization to compare him to JD is ludicrous. Let Towers take you to back to back World Series then come back I'll eat my words. I hope this whole scenario works out for the Snakes though, my second favorite team, cause you got a major uphill battle in the NL West.
gtownfan
ArizFan, are you implying that the Rangers have undervalued Upton ("make a legit offer") or overvalued Update ("if you get him, good luck with that")? Personally, I'm not giving up my top prospect for "good luck with that."
JBeckTex
Towers should sign more OFers. I don't think he has enough yet...

AZ, what about 3 minor league MIs, ex-Profar, for Skaggs, and one other top pitcher. That beats DiDi 3 to 2.
Or if you need another outfielder, there is Cruz plus a little minor league sugar on top.
Face it, Towers is as close to being a clown as a tanning bed junkie out of a clown suit can possibly be. He reportedly turned down Upton for Olt, Holland plus one. This is a lot of cheap talent under several years of control. He ignored Upton's warnings about SEA, traded Young for Pennington, bought Cody Ross, and gave away Bauer for Didi.
This is not a Texas problem. Towers had problems at the winter meetings during the multi team negotiations. He could not cut deals with SD or ATL, not to mention Texas. His treatment of Upton and stacking the outfield has reduced his trading ledge substantially. All the evidence points to a GM who reacts, rather than plans, talks instead of thinking, and is unable to objectively value his team's needs and player values.

You guys realize Justin Upton is a young premier talent? Why do you think that not giving up Profar will get it done?
I'm a Texas fan and Olt and Holland for Upton makes no sense to me.
ilovetrades
If he's that premier maybe Aeiz should keep him which would be just fine with me.

@ilovetrades
If you really think Upton is worth Profar, well that's all I really need to know about you.
Romro212000
Given the price the Snakes want I'd go after Stanton.
Cosmo
"Given the price the Snakes want..."
We have to keep in mind, "wanting' and "getting" are two different things.

Bz-I must tell you I am not a "fake' Eric. Just have the misfortune of having the same name as one of the nerd on here.

why give up Profar for Upton?....would much rather give up Profar for a player with true talent, Micheal Young. Now that my friends is a deal i make 9/10 times.
Fajita
Remember when JD sucked as a GM? Then he traded Tex for a slew of prospects that almost all panned out. He looked pretty good after that. I'm guessing that's what Towers needs to do in Arizona. Another reason Upton will be dealt soon.
Rossi
wonder how much longer we have to endure people talking crap bout MY? Move on Fajita-let it go.

I wasn't really talking crap. I was a huge Micheal Young fan. Just simply a joke.
Fajita
I wouldn't give up Profar for Upton. But given the ceiling that Upton has what do you expect Arizona to want back? Just like what was said, if they don't get something Profaresque, they aren't going to trade him.
I'm simply saying don't expect Arizona to hand over Upton for Mike Olt and Derek Holland or Martin Perez. That trade my friends, is retarded.
ilovetrades
thought fajita was channelling his inner-Wash for a second.
The (unfortunate) answer to the question NtE, is that as long as people want to complain about Wash and his decision making, there will always be MY punchlines...

Actually it's a pretty fair deal. Upton is an incredibly talented rf who hasn't been able to really put it all together for more than one season.
Olt is a top 10 prospect in all of baseball. He's a plus defender at 3b and shows plenty of power.
Holland is a young sp with a TORP ceiling who hasn't put it all together for multiple seasons, but we know what he's capable of and he's signed to a team friendly long term deal.
Perez is our top pitching prospect who's not far from ML ready. He's drawn comparison to Johan Santana and also has a TORP celing.
So like I said, for you to say we're low balling towers with such an offer tells me all I need to know about your baseball knowledge. To be honest, considering our lacking depth at sp I really wouldn't want us to give them that deal. However, its a very very fair package. Upton is not worth Profar plain and simple. Not even straight up.

Jeff Moore paints a pretty good picture that Kevin Towers doesn't seem to have a clue what he's doing... certainly not a clear plan...
